Also starring in the movie are Steve Zahn, Tom Everett Scott, Jonathon Schaech, Ethan Embry, and Liv Tyler. As strong as the cast of That Thing You Do! is, however, the most standout aspect of the movie is undoubtedly its music.
The songs in movies about fictional bands and musicians rarely transcend their beginnings, but the title track from That Thing You Do! reached the Billboard charts and has been covered by bands and artists from ‘N Sync to Pentatonix to Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong. There will be multiple versions of the That Thing You Do! vinyl soundtrack, including the standard black colorway and an opaque red one that is retail exclusive. Enjoy The Ride Records is releasing a “Gold Nugget” variant, of which only 500 will be made, while the Mondo exclusive variant boasts a clear base design with a multi-color splatter that will look great on a turntable as it plays the film’s beloved songs. The vinyl will feature the hit title track as well as other songs written by the late great Adam Schlesinger, who was also a songwriter and bassist in Fountains of Wayne.
The That Thing You Do! vinyl soundtrack will be released by Playtone Records with an MSRP of $40. In addition to the vinyl itself, the package will feature a color insert that boasts shots of the film. It’s a perfect way to relive a favorite movie and sing along with the fantastic music of That Thing You Do!
Pre-orders for the That Thing You Do! vinyl soundtrack begin on September 6th at Mondoshop.com. The albums will ship in fall 2023.
