As the spy thriller The 355 brings together characters from various backgrounds and countries in pursuit of a powerful technological device, the characters form complicated and shifting relationships with one another that ultimately reveals their true nature, exposing some of them as far more likable than others.
While characters such as Larry Marks and Nick Fowler prove themselves to be unlikable traitors who sell out their friends and colleagues, the other spies endear themselves to the audience through their selfless acts, like Khadijah's willingness to return to the field, and their sympathetic backstories, such as Marie's difficult past and family history.
Larry Marks
As Mace's superior officer at the CIA, Larry has a limited role in the story but Mace clearly places a lot of trust in him as she hands over the doomsday device to his care. Larry betrays this trust and is revealed to be working with the terrorists.
His corruption and greed jeopardize the safety of the entire world. The film does not give the audience a lot of reasons to like Larry, but there are certainly reasons not to like him as he proves to be a liar and traitor.
Luis Rojas
DNI agent Luis Rojas sets the events of the film into motion by stealing the device during the raid of a crimelord's house and trying to sell it on the black market. While Luis eventually realizes that he is in over his head, it is too late and his actions allow the device to fall into the wrong hands.
Although he does demonstrate some remorse for his actions and chooses to do the right thing in the end, he is still responsible for putting the world in danger through his selfish and greedy decision to take the device instead of doing his job.
Nick Fowler
Initially, CIA agent Nick Fowler appears to be one of the more likable characters in the film. He is a talented agent and a charming friend who starts an endearing relationship with Mace. However, after faking his own death, he shows his true colors and reveals himself to be The 355's evil villainous spy who sold out his own agency to work for the terrorists as a mole.
Whatever goodwill and likability that Nick earns in the first half of the film vanishes as he proves himself to be a brutal and heartless character who is willing to betray anyone in order to serve his own self-interest.
Lin Mi Sheng
Mysterious MSS agent Lin Mi Sheng does not get much screentime as her teammates but makes a strong impression as soon as she shows up. Confident and ambitious, she is not content to just recover the device and runs a larger operation that collects information on many of the world's most dangerous criminals.
She is an impressive character who carries herself with confidence and poise, even in the face of incredible danger. She is a great character who deserved more screentime to develop her character and to allow the audience to form more of an attachment to her.
Marie Schmidt
German BND agent Marie Schmidt is one of the toughest characters in the film, repeatedly proving herself to be the best fighter in The 355. She is a valuable member of the team who is capable of going toe-to-toe with anyone.
But as she bonds with the other spies, she also reveals another layer of her character as she recounts her troubled past and complicated relationship with her father. Talented and driven, she is able to endear herself to the audience through her skill and sympathetic backstory.
Mason "Mace" Browne
After initially finding herself in conflict with the other spies, CIA agent Mason "Mace" Browne quickly establishes herself as the inspirational leader of the team. Her drive and dedication to the mission fuel much of the action as she repeatedly risks her life to try to save the world.
Her leadership helps keep the team together in the difficult moments and she pushes the other characters to reach their full potential. Cool and confident, she has many of The 355's best quotes including her motivational speeches to the group and taunts of the enemy.
Khadijah
Despite having a successful career as a cybersecurity expert, former MI6 agent Khadijah is willing to step back into harm's way and answer Mace's call when she asks for Khadijah's help in locating the device. She is easily one of the smartest characters in The 355 and provides the team with invaluable tech skills.
Beyond that, she is also funny and relatable, often finding herself dragged into bad situations as a result of her strong moral com and loyalty to Mace. Her relationship with her partner and her affable personality make her one of the most likable characters in the film.
Graciela
Unlike the other spies, DNI agent and therapist Graciela finds herself unwittingly involved in the search for the device after she and Luis Rojas are betrayed and ambushed. She is willing to risk her life in order to protect her family and repeatedly states her desire to just go home.
She is the emotional core of the team and her love for her family helps make the stakes of the mission more tangible. Her care for her family and bravery for their sake help make her the most likable character in The 355.
