As many fans know by now, the producers of a number of mental and physical challenges. One that has become a recurring task over the years is the food challenges, where several racers have been given the opportunity to try out some local dishes and delicacies.
However, some of these challenges usually come with strings attached. As viewers have seen, time is of the essence on the show, so teams could risk being eliminated if they do not finish in the allocated amount of time they are given. As a result, some tasks have proven to be a bit more difficult in comparison to others.
Beignets - Season 32
The final leg of The Amazing Race season 32 took the final three teams on a race around New Orleans. After catching some beads and finding a baby on top of some cakes, the teams soon discovered they had to consume a plate of beignets before they could keep on racing to their final task.
All three teams managed to complete this challenge. Will and James finished first, with Hung and Cheng closely following behind them. It might have been a close race, but Will and James ended up being crowned the winners.
Deep-Fried Crickets And Grasshoppers - Season 9
During season 9 of the show, one of the Fast Forward challenges saw the racers head to a diner in Thailand to try out the local cuisine. In order to get their next clue, the racers learned that they would have to eat two whole servings of deep-fried grasshoppers and crickets.
Two teams were interested in grabbing the Fast Forward initially. While Ray Whitty and Yolanda Brown-Moore eventually backed out, BJ Averell and Tyler MacNiven were willing to try it.
Since they weren't being timed, BJ and Tyler decided they wouldn't rush into it but pace themselves. This tactic paid off as the team finished quicker than the others and placed first.
Raw Octopus - Season 4
In season 4, the contestants were sent to South Korea to take part in the next Detour challenge. When they arrived, the racers discovered they had two options to get their next clue.
While most of them chose 'Option A,' Reichen, Chip, David, and Jeff decide to go for Option B. Entitled 'Strong Stomach," the two teams were told that they would have to go find a restaurant and order a bowl of san-nakji (raw octopus). While Chip and Reichen agreed to give it a go, David and Jeff decided this task wasn't for them and decided to swap challenges. Again, since they weren't being timed time, Chip and Reichen were able to successfully complete their 'Fast Forward' and receive their next clue.
Cheese Fondue - Season 18
For anyone who loves cheese and lots of it, this particular Amazing Race challenge definitely hits the spot. Back in Season 18, teams were faced with a Detour known as "Cheese or Wheeze." In the task, racers had to consume an entire pot of bubbling hot cheese fondue before they could get their next clue.
Initially, the Hoffman sisters chose this challenge but eventually backed out. Brothers Jet and Cord McCoy had no choice but to take this eating challenge after they were Double U-turned.
Cow Lips - Season 10
In season 10, the contestants were seen taking part in another challenge as they traveled to Madagascar. When they got to the Analakely Market, the contestants learned that two Fast Forwards were up for play. However, in order for the teams to get these, each racer had to eat a plate of cow lips (which still had its teeth and hair in them).
While Tyler Denk, James Branaman, Rob Diaz, and Kimberly Chabolla all took part in the challenge, only James managed to finish. Everyone else, especially Kimberly, struggled with this task as she was sick several times.
Sushi Roulette - Season 15
Back in season 15, the show's contestants raced around Tokyo and eventually found themselves participating in a mock Japanese game show for their Roadblock challenge. Here, the racers sat in front of a roulette wheel that contained 11 rolls of sushi, with two of them filled with a large quantity of wasabi.
A team had to land on the wasabi-filled roll to get their next clue. The only catch? They had to eat it within two minutes. If they failed to do so, they would have to keep spinning the wheel until they landed on the roll again. This proved to be a bit too much for Brian Kleinschmidt, who struggled even more to eat two wasabi-filled rolls after failing to complete the task the first time.
Caviar - Season 5
In the cast of contestants who ed the show back in season 5, this Roadblock task saw many of the players consume a whopping kilogram of caviar just to get their next clue. The task proved to be daunting, to say the least.
All teams struggled, with many of them expressing how extremely nauseous and bloated it made them feel. Christie Woods and Colin Guinn even got themselves into an argument after Colin remarked that she was taking too much time on the task.
Schnitzel Meal - Season 18
During season 18, the teams made their way to Austria where they were presented with a Detour that came in the form of an eating challenge. Teams had to board a Ferris wheel and consume a full serving of wiener schnitzel and sauerkraut. The meal also came with slices of an Austrian cake known as sachertorte.
The whole meal had to be devoured in just 12 minutes. At first, two teams – sisters Jen and Kisha Hoffman along with Gary and Mallory Ervin – decided to give it a try. However, since none of the teams finished, they ultimately switched to the other Detour challenge.
Traditional Argentinian Meat Feast - Season 7
In this season 7 challenge, the contestants were told that they had to eat a traditional Argentinian meat feast. This consisted of a plate of cow intestine, its kidney, and its udder. There was also a blood sausage too.
However, it seemed that many of the teams struggled with this challenge. In the end, all three groups decided to take the four-hour penalty as no one could finish the large portions in time.
