The Bachelor season 29 leading man Grant Ellis made some questionable choices during episode 2, indicating that he might not have the emotional intelligence that he needs to find his future wife. Grant, a now-31-year-old day trader who's originally from Newark, New Jersey, but now lives in Houston, Texas, began his Bachelor journey with 25 women. He narrowed them down to 18 on premiere night, giving Alexe Godin his first impression rose, which meant that she also automatically received the first one-on-one date because of a new twist.
During The Bachelor season 29 episode 2, there were also two group dates, involving basketball and singing R&B. The basketball group date consisted of ten women, including Alli Jo Hinkes, Allyshia Gupta, Beverly Ortega, Chloie Costello, Juliana Pasquarosa, Natalie Phillips, Parisa Shifteh, Sarafiena Watkins, Vicky Nyamuswa, and Zoe McGrady. The R&B singing date included Bailey Brown, Carolina Sofia, Dina Lupancu, Ella Del Rosario, Litia Garr, Rebekah Garrett, and Rose Sombke. Although Grant made some strong connections during these dates, he also made some decisions that could jeopardize his relationships with some of the women.
Grant Ellis Allowed Zoe McGrady To Steal Him Away
Grant Upset The Other Women
The first Bachelor group date of the season was a five-on-five basketball game. It began with the women doing some skill drills with a group of children. When it came time for the slam dunk competition, Beverly went first, followed by Zoe. However, Zoe decided to forfeit her turn, and stole Grant away instead. They went to the building's roof. Grant and Zoe were gone for so long that, when they returned, host Jesse Palmer declared that the slam dunk contest was over, which greatly upset and outraged the other women.

Later, at the cocktail party, Zoe stole Grant away two more times, the first from Juliana. Alli Jo then interrupted Zoe out of spite, but she soon returned to steal him back. The women were frustrated by Zoe's actions, but their anger was misdirected because it was Grant who not only allowed her to steal him away for such an extended period of time during the basketball slam dunk contestant, but then two more times after that.
Grant didn't seem to realize or care that the other women were waiting for him. They were cringeworthy moments that made Grant seem thoughtless and selfish, which he never seemed to be before, especially as a contestant on Jenn Tran's Bachelorette season, in which he was thoughtful and considerate.
Grant Kissed Two Women In Front Of The Other Contestants
Grant Doesn't Think About The Consequences Of His Actions
After the basketball game, Grant chose Chloie to be the MVP, and he gave her his letterman jacket. Then, they kissed in front of everyone, including the other women, which made some of them jealous. During the R&B singing date, Carolina gave Grant a kiss on the lips during her song. However, when she won the contest, Grant made out with Carolina in front of everyone for an extended period of time after they shared a dance while being serenaded by singer Mario.
Grant was clearly not thinking clearly because he either forgot or didn't care that the other women were watching them. They expressed how upset they were in their confessionals, and some even cried. When Grant arrived for the cocktail party, he could sense that the vibe was off when he was greeted with awkward silence from the women after their initial greetings. He pulled Rebekah to find out what was going on, and to ask her if he was doing something wrong.
Rebekah explained to him that she knew that she couldn't always be chosen, but she was ive of whatever he needed to do. He told her that he felt bad because it was really hard for him because he wasn't used to giving his attention to multiple women. However, Grant has to work on thinking about how his actions will affect the other women before he does things, instead of regretting them after the fact.
It was shocking and puzzling that Grant didn't realize that kissing Carolina in such a ionate and public way would upset the other women and make Carolina a target of their anger. Even stranger, after making Rebekah feel as though she was his trusted confidante, he said goodbye to her at the rose ceremony. Grant's decisions during this Bachelor episode were baffling.
Grant Unknowingly Insulted Litia Garr On Premiere Night
Litia Explained Why She Was Upset To Grant
During The Bachelor season 29 premiere night, Grant told Litia that he could tell that she didn't get told no a lot because she's very beautiful. In her confessional, Litia said that what Grant said was triggering for her because, in her experience, when it comes to relationships, she's been told no for sure, and that was why she was there. Litia then explained to Grant that his comment was a trigger for her because she gets told no all the time. Grant apologized to her for saying it and said that he felt like he came off wrong, and he made a quick judgment.

Does Litia Garr Win The Bachelor Season 29 With Grant Ellis? (SPOILERS)
The Bachelor S29 contestant Litia Garr starting building a strong connection with Grant Ellis on premiere night, but do they get engaged in the end?
Grant and Litia then spoke about her past relationship, and they bonded about how they're sick of dating. Litia even cried with him. She left the conversation saying in her confessional that he made her feel seen and hopeful, and that she was so grateful for how he responded. Grant told her that he falls kind of fast, and she said that she does too. They then shared a kiss. However, Grant had put his foot in his mouth during their first meeting, and it's easy to imagine that he might do it again in the future.
Grant's Questionable Decisions Might Be An Indication Of A Disastrous Ending
Grant Is Indecisive In The Previews
In a Bachelor preview, shared to the Bachelor Nation on ABC YouTube channel, Grant is shown during his finale torn between his final two women. Jesse asks him if he feels like he knows what he wants to do, and Grant says that the truth is that he doesn't know. Jesse then tells him that he has both women there on standby, and he has to know which one to send first, and Grant seems confused and upset. Although he was wonderful during Jenn's Bachelorette season, perhaps the pressure is too much for him as the lead.
Because of Grant's missteps during episode 2, it's unfortunately easy to imagine that he'll keep making more mistakes until they snowball into a disaster. It seems that he's already upset so many of the women that he might not find his true love. It would be a shame if Grant's season ended in heartache, but he doesn't seem to have the level of emotional intelligence that's needed to make the decision about who'll be his future wife. He was much better on his one-on-one date with Alexe, but he has to navigate the group dates better. Hopefully, Grant's Bachelor season will have a happy ending, but he has to do better in order for it to happen.
The Bachelor airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
