The Bachelor is known for ending its seasons in engagements, with the lead getting down on one knee with hopes of spending a lifetime with their final rose recipient. More times than not, the couple stays together for a brief period after their season is over before eventually parting ways and returning their Neil Lane engagement ring.

Sometimes couples will stay together for as long as possible, hoping to fulfill a contract where they can keep the ring, or genuinely attempting to have a successful relationship with one another. Other engagements have been as short as a few weeks after the cameras stopped rolling, with the show's participants realizing marriage is not in their future as soon as they return home from filming.

Nick Viall & Vanessa Grimaldi (Season 21)

Season 21 of The Bachelor marked Nick Viall's fourth appearance in the franchise, and seemed to be the first where he actually found long-lasting love. In the season finale, he got engaged to special education teacher Vanessa Grimaldi.

Nick and Vanessa's romance seemed to be sincere and headed for marriage, especially after he dedicated several of his Dancing With The Stars performances to his fiance. However, in August of 2017 after only four and a half months of engagement bliss post-show, Nick and Vanessa announced that they had ended their relationship.

Jake Pavelka & Vienna Girardi (Season 14)

Jake Pavelka found love with 23-year-old Vienna Girardi on the 14th season of The Bachelor after breaking things off with his runner-up (and fan-favorite) Tenley Molzahn in the season finale.

In June 2010, just three months after announcing their engagement, Jake and Vienna split up and publicly disparaged each other, with accusations regarding infidelity and putting on a show for the cameras being thrown around. Jake went on to apologize for his comments about his ex-fiancee.

Chris Soules & Whitney Bischoff (Season 19)

Chris Soules appeared as the 19th bachelor after coming in third place on Andi Dorfman's season of The Bachelorette. On his own season, his final rose came down to Whitney Bischoff and Becca Tilley. In the end, he got down on one knee and asked Whitney to marry him.

Their relationship after the show didn't last very long, unfortunately. Despite getting in engaged and sharing their soon-to-be wedded bliss with viewers, Whitney and Chris announced their split just two months after the finale aired.

Matt Grant & Shayne Lamas (Season 12)

Bachelor Matt Grant got engaged to 22-year-old actress Shayne Lamas on the 12th season of the show, the first to feature a British lead.

Despite getting engaged in the season's finale, Matt and Shayne had relationship troubles before officially announcing that they parted ways. They briefly lived together before he moved out a month into their public engagement. A month after that, just two months after the finale, Matt and Shayne confirmed that they were no longer together.

Andrew Baldwin & Tessa Horst (Season 10)

Andrew Baldwin and social worker Tessa Horst found love on season 10 of The Bachelor, deciding to take their relationship to the next level and get engaged in the season finale.

The couple soon backtracked, breaking off their engagement just one month after announcing their plan to marry. It wasn't the end of their relationship though, as they instead attempted dating in the real world. It wasn't meant to be though, as they broke up just a few months later.

Aaron Buerge & Helene Eksterowicz (Season 2)

A mere days after the episode aired, Aaron and Helene shared with the public that they were no longer in a relationship. Helene spoke out about how she felt blindsided by the split, while Aaron maintained that his former fiance was a great person who he wished nothing but the best for.

Brad Womack & Emily Maynard (Season 15)

On Brad Womack's first season of The Bachelor, he didn't get a chance to propose to either of his final women as they both rejected him. On his second-go-round, he fell in love with Emily Maynard and bravely proposed marriage to her, which she accepted.

However, Emily and Brad's engagement didn't even make it to After The Final Rose. They broke up before their season had finished airing, though they later reconciled after the season was over. The reconciliation didn't last long, and they went their separate ways for good two months after getting back together.

Jason Mesnick & Melissa Rycroft (Season 13)

Jason Mesnick was the first bachelor to change his mind about who he gave his final rose to. After getting engaged to Melissa Rycroft in the finale, he quickly broke things off with her and pursued a relationship with his runner-up Molly Malaney.

Jason and Molly ended up getting married and having two children together, while Melissa Rycroft was invited to do Dancing With The Stars twice. After her breakup with Jason, she reunited with her ex-boyfriend, Tyler. All's well that ended well because Tyler and Melissa ended up happily married, much like Jason and Molly.

Arie Luyendyk Jr. & Becca Kufrin (Season 22)

Much like Jason Mesnick, Arie Luyendyk Jr. also changed his mind after making his final rose pick. Only this time, things were made a lot more public when he declared his love for runner-up Lauren Burnham on After The Final Rose, even going as far as to propose to her on live television with his ex-fiance still in the room.

Arie and Becca's engagement lasted only a couple of weeks before he revealed to her that he still had feelings for Lauren. Becca went on to lead her own season of The Bachelorette, and most recently had a relationship that fans adored with Thomas Jacobs on season 7 of Bachelor In Paradise.

Peter Weber & Hannah Ann Sluss (Season 24)

After Peter Weber's frontrunner Madison Prewett self-eliminated in the final week of The Bachelor, he was left with two choices; leave the show alone or pursue a relationship with model Hannah Ann Sluss.

Peter decided to propose to Hannah Ann, surprising viewers at home who thought he was in love with Madi. However, the engagement delighted his mother who thought Hannah Ann was a much better match for her son. The relationship didn't last long, with the couple's breakup being filmed before the finale aired. Peter tried to reconcile with Madi after his split with Hannah Ann, and later dated fifth-place finisher Kelley Flanagan.
