Barry Keoghan's return as Joker in The Batman 2 is moving forward following several delays, including the most recent, which pushed the release date from 2026 to October 2027. Still, fans are waiting to learn what the sequel will actually be about. One popular theory is that Barry Keoghan's Joker will be brought back as the primary antagonist.

In a new interview with Technikart, Pattinson briefly spoke about The Batman 2, but remained largely mum as plot details are still under wraps. When asked if Keoghan's Joker may be in the sequel, Pattinson (translated from French) only stated, "Yeah, no, I don't know. Potentially..." The Batman 2 is expected to start production at the end of 2025, as Pattinson previously confirmed in an interview last month.

What Robert Pattinson's Joker Comments Mean For The Batman 2

While Pattinson's Joker tease can be interpreted in a handful of ways, it's clear that even if he knew about the status of Keoghan's Joker, he wouldn't be allowed to share it. When it comes to plot details for a major superhero film like The Batman 2, it is up to Reeves and DC Studios to decide how much they want to share with the public. Since the sequel is also still in pre-production, sharing something about Joker's hypothetical role would be too premature, as Reeves may still be working on the finalized details for who is actually in The Batman 2 cast.

But it is interesting how cryptic even Pattinson is about Joker's potential role in the film, as Keoghan has also teased a possible The Batman 2 return. Given their interaction in the first movie, it would be incredibly fascinating to see a more extensive story between Bruce Wayne and Joker in The Batman universe that Reeves is fleshing out. With the many possibilities that they can take the Batman and Joker rivalry, the Clown Prince of Crime will hopefully have at least some inclusion in the sequel.

Robert Pattinson in The Batman

While time will tell if Pattinson's new tease about The Batman 2 will lead to Joker actually being in the film, things may get clarified later in the year. With The Batman 2 eying production in several months, casting news will have to start coming out throughout the summer and the fall. But until then, the DC audience will have to continue to speculate as The Batman 2 gets closer to starting principal photography.
