James Gunn debunks The Batman 2 cancellation rumors on Threads

Gunn was pretty direct in his answer, showing that DC has no time for charades when it comes to projects. As such, if The Batman - Part II had been canceled, as has been speculated in the past few months, Gunn would not have played coy about it. The DC Studios co-CEO also said the studio is eagerly awaiting director Matt Reeves' script for the next Batman movie, though he offered no timeline for when it could be finished.

Matt Reeves' Batman Plans Continue

James Gunn makes it clear that there is nothing wrong with Matt Reeves' The Batman sequel. As such, the director's plans for his Elseworlds universe continue to move forward as planned. The extra time Reeves is taking to get the script for The Batman - Part II ready has nothing to do with any of the cancellation theories. Gunn showed his full confidence in the director by saying that he has been one of Reeves' biggest fans throughout his career and that DC Studios is eagerly awaiting his script for The Batman - Part II.

The Batman 2’s Newest Story Details Can Fix My One Bruce Wayne Movie Problem

The Batman - Part II director Matt Reeves has revealed the first story details from the movie, and I believe a big Bruce Wayne problem will be fixed.

Gunn's comments are also meaningful for another universe. Separate from Matt Reeves' The Batman franchise is Gunn's new DC Universe. While many projects have been announced for the DCU, multiple movies and shows, like the Batman movie reboot The Brave and the Bold and the HBO series Waller, have yet to see finished scripts and enter production. Those projects have also been plagued by cancellation rumors. Gunn's way of addressing The Batman - Part II's cancellation conspiracy theories also translates to the DCU projects, as Gunn hints that he would have revealed that they were canceled if that was true.

Our Take On James Gunn's The Batman - Part II Comments

DC Is Doing The Right Thing

The Batman was a massive success. After HBO's The Penguin showed that the franchise has enormous potential both in theaters and on TV, it would make absolutely no sense to cancel the next chapter in Matt Reeves' The Batman Epic Crime Saga. I believe that giving the director as much time as he needs to make sure that The Batman - Part II lives up to expectations after the success of the first movie and The Penguin is the right move. DC is focusing on good stories first, and that makes The Batman - Part II exciting.
