Episode 5 Of The Penguin Features A Dark And Disturbing Scene

Among the many DC connections in The Penguin episode 5, the latest episode shows one of the darkest and most brutally violent scenes in any Batman project yet. After capturing Taj Maroni, Penguin sets up a meetup with his mother Nadia to make an exchange. This quickly goes south, with Maroni goons firing on Penguin. However, it seemed that Oz had a plan for this: With Taj soaked in gasoline, Penguin lights the trail and violently kills Taj and Nadia both.

This scene is brutal and intense, where the blazing fire swallowing up mother and son is clearly shown. As this occurs, Oz looks on with a little, twisted smile on his face, as if happy that this is what is needed from him. This Penguin seems to get a sick pleasure out of killing, even when it is not in his best interest to do so. On his rise to power, it is almost assured that Oz will do whatever it takes to reach the top.

While The Batman gave an interesting and charismatic take on Penguin that resonated with audiences, The Penguin has worked hard to make Oz into a genuine threat. Throughout the series, Penguin has missed some of his character’s staples, although the series seems to be working hard to turn him into the ruthless foe he has historically been. Shown to find pleasure in killing and with a ruthless desire to be at the top, no matter who he has to hurt to make it happen, Penguin has already begun to transform into a captivating and terrifying villain.

While significant relationships between superhero movies and television series have had mixed results and have been used as justification for why films like The Marvels flopped, The Penguin leads perfectly into The Batman - Part II. Whether or not Penguin is the main villain, it makes sense that he would appear in the next Batman film. Oz’s reputation around Gotham is evolving, and it would be tense and compelling to see how his relationship with Pattinson's Batman has evolved since the last time they spoke.
