Liza Colón-Zayas has shared her hopes for the future of The Bear season 4 was renewed ahead of the release of season 3, which premiered on June 26.

During a recent exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com, Colón-Zayas spoke about the show's possible future beyond season 4. While season 5 has not been officially greenlit, the actor says she hopes The Bear will stay on the air for "at least another five years." However, she its that "we're white-knuckling it," pointing out how the current state of the restaurant industry makes long-term success difficult. Thus, while she is hopeful, she is also somewhat nervous. Read her full quote below:

The future is very fragile. You know, we're white-knuckling it, but that's also very real, right? Especially now, the state of everything, but especially the restaurant industry. It's not a walk in the park. I’m nervous too. I would love to see the show potentially continue for at least another five years! But only if that's… there's that line that Richie had in the beginning, like, "It is a delicate ecosystem." And I think that as long as that is inspired and nurtured then we'll have the magic that we have. So that's more important. Five more seasons, please!

How Long Could The Bear Run?

The Show’s Popularity Could Either Help Or Hurt Its Longevity

So far, there is no precedent for an FX on Hulu show lasting for eight or nine seasons, because the brand collaboration is less than five years old. In fact, The Bear is tied with Reservation Dogs as the longest-running FX on Hulu show, with three seasons and a total of 28 episodes apiece. It will pull ahead of the cancelled comedy when season 4 premieres, but it will be entering uncharted territory. However, the popularity of the show, which has already won 10 Emmys and four Golden Globes, could ensure its longevity for a long time to come.

That popularity is a double-edged sword, though, as it has helped make the core The Bear cast into rising stars. Jeremy Allen White, who plays the lead role, has already starred in the notable A24 wrestling drama The Iron Claw in addition to taking a role as Bruce Springsteen in the biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere. Other notable non-The Bear roles have come to Ayo Edebiri (who voices characters in the animated hits Inside Out 2 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (who will play The Thing in Marvel's The Fantastic Four).

Jeremy Allen White has won one Emmy and two Golden Globes for his performance as Carmy on The Bear.

The stars' increasingly busy schedules after The Bear season 3 could possibly interfere with them continuing to star in episodes beyond season 4. Because of the robust ensemble surrounding them, it may be the case that the show could carry on if one or all of them departed. However, its continued popularity would be called into question by this occurrence, and the creators of the show may elect to end it instead of being forced to deal with such a major shakeup.
