Statham has been the lead in several major franchises, including The Transporter, the Crank movies, and the modern duology The Meg and Meg 2: The Trench. Many of these films have succeeded both in theaters and on streaming.
While his career is chock-full of films overall, Statham is not without his gap periods. 2023, for example, was huge for the actor, as it saw the release of three franchise entries: The Expendables 4, Meg 2: The Trench, and Fast X. The year prior, however, had no theatrical releases for Statham. The same has been true in other years for the actor, where he will cycle through a huge year and then follow it up with a much slower one. 2024 was one of the slower periods in Statham's career, but that has not stopped his lone 2024 movie from succeeding on streaming.
The Beekeeper Is Buzzworthy On Streaming
The 2024 Movie Made $152 Million At The Box Office
The Beekeeper is now climbing up the streaming charts. Released toward the beginning of 2024, this David Ayer-directed movie sees Statham play a former intelligence operative who becomes involved with a mysterious group called the Beekeepers as he seeks revenge against the scammers who wronged his well-meaning landlady (Phylicia Rashad). In addition to Statham, The Beekeeper cast also includes Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Jeremy Irons, and Josh Hutcherson. The film brought in $152.7 million at the box office, representing a decent total considering its $40 million budget.
The Beekeeper opened on the same weekend as the Mean Girls musical, so it never claimed No. 1 at the domestic box office at any point during its theatrical run, despite its success.
Per FlixPatrol, The Beekeeper has now become a success on Prime Video. To kick off 2025, the film has risen to the No. 8 spot on the streaming service's Top 10 chart in the United States. It beat out the romantic dramas Me Before You and Culpa Mia for this spot, but lost to seven films, including The Fall Guy, Red One, Culpa Tuya, A Quiet Place: Day One, The Equalizer 2, The Creator, and Last Known Location, the majority of which are also major 2024 titles.
What This Means For The Beekeeper
The Movie Continues Its Cross-Platform Success
The streaming success of The Beekeeper is yet another feather in the cap of the Jason Statham action movie. Given its relatively slim budget, it was already a success in theaters. Movies generally need to earn back two and a half times their budgets in theaters, meaning that its break-even point was most likely somewhere around $100 million, a total that it easily sured. Its worldwide gross of $152.7 million also led it to be the 29th highest-grossing movie of 2024 at the time of writing, beating other major theatrical releases, including Smile 2, Transformers One, Longlegs, and Mean Girls.

10 Best Box Office Success Stories Of 2024
2024 saw several films defy public expectations as they achieved large and even record-breaking box office numbers in theaters throughout the year.
The movie was also a solid critical success. On Rotten Tomatoes, more than 175 different critics' reviews have been aggregated to earn it a solidly Fresh 71% score, while its audience score is a Verified Hot 92%. That critic score is Statham's seventh-best ever, as well as his best in nearly a decade, since 2015's Spy (95%) and Furious 7 (82%), which are his Top 2 titles. The audience score is even better, marking his third-best behind 1998's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and 2000's Snatch, which are tied at 93%.
Our Take On The Beekeeper's Streaming Success
This Is A Good Sign For Statham's Next Career Moves
The Beekeeper's success on Prime Video is another testament to the allure of the Statham name. Other Statham-led works have been performing well on streaming recently, including Meg 2: The Trench, which made Prime Video's top 10 earlier in the week. Statham's 2008 movie Death Race also climbed the Max charts just days after it hit the streaming platform, cementing its success. While 2024 may have been a slow year for Jason Statham movies, his years will likely be even more successful.
The star [will be] reuniting with The Beekeeper director David Ayer...
The coming years seem to see Jason Statham continue his more slow and steady drip of new releases, with just one officially confirmed title so far per year. These would be the 2025 action-thriller A Working Man, which sees the star reuniting with The Beekeeper director David Ayer, and abig-budget 2026 franchise installment, the Fast 11, in which he is set to reprise his role as Deckard Shaw. Both movies are set up for success considering their predecessors, and their theatrical results could be compounded by the continued streaming success of a multitude of older Statham titles.
