The Big Bang Theory is one of the most popular sitcoms out there today. It's been a year since the show was over and fans are still binging this series to get another dose of their favorite quirky, dynamic characters. Leonard Hofstader is definitely a complex guy and is arguably the glue that keeps the gang together.
Like every television character, Leonard certainly has his redeeming qualities and his not-so-awesome flaws. There are many things to love about him, but all fans certainly find themselves rolling their eyes throughout the show. It's time to celebrate the best - and worst - traits of Leonard.
Worst: Arrogance
Leonard definitely thinks he's the smartest guy in the room, regardless really of who else is in it. He's usually pretty open-minded and caring with Penny, but fans have all seen him asserting himself over her because he thinks he knows best.
Plus, there's definitely a whole lot of hot-headedness flying around between Sheldon and Leonard. This is one of his most annoying and frustrating traits, which is something all fans could do without.
Best: Selflessness
While Leonard can think highly of himself, he will almost always put others ahead of himself. He does everything for Penny, and really asks for absolutely nothing in return. He can be a bit selfish when it comes to Sheldon, but when push comes to shove, he would do anything for him.
Leonard wants the best for them all. He will literally take a step back or put Penny's needs ahead of his own to make her happy. It's a little unhealthy but no one can deny that it does make him a caring partner and friend.
Worst: Impatience
Leonard's fuse is pretty short. He's pretty impatient when people around him are being difficult, and he'll blow up almost immediately. This is definitely true when he's with Sheldon, and every fan has seen him lose his temper more than enough.
When things don't go as planned, Leonard is probably not the guy anyone wants on their side. Difficult people are not his cup of tea, and he definitely won't be sitting around whilst Sheldon comes to a decision.
Best: Intelligence
Intelligence is something that everybody in this gang certainly has, but Leonard's intelligence is actually pretty impressive and versatile. He knows a lot about his field, but it's clear that he also has a pretty strong mind about other things.
He's definitely more book-smart, but he's not totally out of it when it comes to the real world. He's a smart guy and is probably the guy someone would all call if they had a question about literally anything.
Worst: Emotional
Being emotional doesn't have to be a bad thing, but all fans of this show know that Leonard is always at 100% with his emotions. Whether it's confidence, happiness, anger, or sadness, he's overwhelmed with feelings.
He's a firecracker in this way, and it can get pretty difficult to handle or annoying to watch when he's always plagued by intensity and ion. It can be nice, but it's usually just a lot to take.
Best: ionate
Leonard and the gang are total nerds, but it's actually super endearing. He cares so much about so many things, and he's truly just a ionate guy. Whether it's movies, video games, or his friends, he has a huge heart and cares about everything deeply.
This kind of care is hard to come by, and it's one of his most redeeming qualities. He can be ionate about anything, and this makes him a strong friend, giving partner, and an excellent worker.
Worst: Obnoxious
Leonard is somehow always the one to be heard in a room, and this trait is something that definitely doesn't fly with most fans. Sure, Sheldon might beat him out in this category, but somehow Leonard can still talk over his loud friend.
This character likes to be heard, and he'll get loud until his opinion and feelings are heard. Sure, everyone deserves to be listened to, but Leonard definitely crosses the line into being obnoxious - which did gradually get worse as the show went on.
Best: Leadership
There are a lot of moving parts to this dynamic group, and Leonard is probably the closest thing to the glue keeping it all together. He usually knows what's going on with everyone, and he's always the one that people can turn to.
He takes charge and can lead, in work settings and with his friends. He can be the ring-leader in a way that's not overwhelming or bossy. His leadership definitely keeps his group's heads on their shoulders.
Worst: Manipulative
This isn't always the case, but everyone has seen Leonard fool Sheldon, Penny, and Howard into doing what he wants. He's surprisingly good at lying and can be a bit secretive and manipulative.
As far as friends go, this isn't a great quality for one to have. He's not always upfront with the people he cares about, and he definitely does things for his own personal gain - regardless of who he has to manipulate to achieve it.
Best: Dedicated
Leonard can get a bit impatient, but he's also a super dedicated friend and partner. He cares about nothing more than his relationship with Penny, and at the end of the day, he's all about dedicating himself to Sheldon and the gang.
He'll always be there, no matter what happens. He can talk a big talk about being independent, but he would do anything for any member of his friend group - and that's probably his best quality.
