A new trailer has been released for The Bondsman. The series stars Kevin Bacon as a bounty hunter named Hub Halloran, who is brought back to life — literally — and decides to pursue love and his music career again. However, he realizes that his resurrection comes at a cost, winding up in an undesirable job. The show's cast also includes Damon Herriman, Jolene Purdy, Maxwell Jenkins, Beth Grant, and Jennifer Nettles. The series was created by Grainger David and includes episodes directed by Sanaa Hamri, Lauren Wolkstein, and Thor Freudenthal.

Now, Prime Video has released the trailer for The Bondsman, beginning with the protagonist realizing that he actually died and came back to life. A character then "interviews" Hub for his new job, which will involve him hunting down demons. As the music transitions, Hub heads into an eerie night, wherein he tracks down beings with glowing eyes. The stakes are then raised when the character's boss informs him that he could be "terminated" if he does not manage to process every demon. The Show Will Emphasize Its Dark Comedy Elements

The Bondsman trailer emphasizes the comedy behind this series. While Hub deals with intense supernatural terror, he has to concern himself with the bureaucratic issues of being a demon bounty hunter. He may be sawing demon heads with chainsaws, but he also has to deal with a nagging boss and the procedural frustration of the hotline for information. This creates comedic contrast in the trailer, further emphasized by lines such as "I'm just trying to do something nice here" in response to whether Bacon brought his son to a demon fight.

To create this comedy, it seems that The Bondsman will heavily lean on the lead performances from Bacon and Purdy. Acting for decades, Bacon is a seasoned star who can straddle both the genre elements and comedy. Purdy is a lesser-known star who previously appeared in the pilot episode of The White Lotus season 1, so it will be interesting for her to show off her chops in The Bondsman.

The Bondsman Puts A Spin On A Popular Subgenre

From movies like Old Guy and In the Land of Saints and Sinners to shows like Tulsa King and The Old Man, aging hit-man content and its ilk seems to be all the rage. The Bondsman seems to fall into that genre while differentiating itself through its supernatural element. I think this could make the show a great effort from Prime Video to remix the popular subgenre theme.
