Summary
- The next The Boys spinoff takes the franchise into new territory, exploring different societal issues and expanding the superhero universe.
- This new spinoff is a riskier venture, as it may not be connected to the previous shows and will introduce new characters and settings.
- Amazon's confidence in The Boys is evident, as they continue to greenlight spinoffs and embrace the unique essence of the series.
With The Boys' third spinoff announced, the Prime Video superhero franchise is venturing into new territory that might be riskier than its other shows. The Boys has provided consistent quality in the way it satirizes the superhero movie genre. Given how popular the genre has become, The Boys has also used superheroes to send up societal tropes. Those two aspects of the main series have also continued in its spinoffs.
While some TV spinoffs are just as good as if not better than their predecessors, the concept is never a sure thing. Even worse, spinoffs can actually hurt the original show if done poorly. Thus far, The Boys has done a great job expanding its universe through its first two spinoffs, which may be why Amazon is now comfortable making a more ambitious show. This next The Boys spinoff is titled The Boys: Mexico, and it's clearly heading in a direction the prior offshoots wouldn't have dared.

8 The Boys Spinoffs That Could Work After Gen V
The Boys has already produced one great spinoff with Gen V, but there are loads of other stories with the potential to be just as interesting.
The Boys' Next Show Will Take Place In An Entirely New Setting
The franchise ventures outside the U.S. with The Boys: Mexico.
Part of The Boys' charm is that it satirizes issues in the United States through its superhero characters and plots. The show's first two spinoffs, Gen V and The Boys Presents: Diabolical, have continued that trend. The shows do this by focusing on the authoritarian company, Vought, and the American superheroes that they manufacture. As far as anyone knows, Vought's influence did not spread globally. However, the next spinoff being titled The Boys: Mexico indicates that it takes place in the titular country, giving the franchise an entirely new setting to work with.
The change in setting can now show that the supe problem comes in various other ways besides what Vought generates. Since Gen V focuses on the fact that humans would also be problematic in a world full of superheroes, this Mexico-based show could potentially add another layer to that. Perhaps superheroes will be created through other means besides Compound V, or maybe people in Mexico also want the superheroes exterminated, or superheroes who have broken the law have escaped to Mexico to dodge legal trouble, which could cause another issue.

All Seasons Of The Boys & Gen V, Ranked Worst To Best
The Boys universe has produced three seasons of the main series as well as a spinoff show, Gen V. Here is every season ranked from worst to best.
The Boys: Mexico Is Taking A Risk That The First 2 Spinoffs Didn't
The next show in The Boys' universe may not be connected to the others.
Gen V and The Boys Presents: Diabolical are both directly connected to The Boys. Whether focused on the horrible deeds that Homelander would commit, Vought's diabolical corruption, or both, the first two spinoffs always tie into the main series in some way. What makes The Boys: Mexico much riskier is that it likely won't be intertwined with the other shows. The new spinoff is likely going to be something completely different. Homelander may be a worldwide icon in this universe, but it's hard to see how either Vought or his influence spread to Mexico.
Even if there is some connection, The Boys: Mexico won't use similar characters the way The Boys Presents: Diabolical does. The show likely won't use characters who are clearly connected to Vought like those in Gen V either. Because it takes place in Mexico, the spinoff's characters will probably stand out on their own. Gen V season 1's ending confirmed a direct connection to The Boys' overarching storyline, but hints of this were sprinkled throughout before Homelander showed up. The Boys: Mexico may end similarly, but since it is set in a different country, the story could go in another connection.
Amazon's Latest Plans Showcase Its Confidence In The Boys Universe
The Boys: Mexico isn't likely the last spinoff to be announced.
Despite the popularity of the superhero genre, there has been a feeling of fatigue with these movies and TV shows because they've begun to seem all the same. That's what made The Boys feel so fresh when the series first started in 2019. Its harsh realism regarding the prospect of superheroes existing in the real world gave the genre some new flavor. More importantly, it brought Prime Video an entirely new subscriber base. With The Boys' success came spinoffs that captured the show's essence while adding something new. That's why Amazon Studios is comfortable greenlighting spinoffs whether they're connected or not.
After Gen V brought some new material by having its main cast of supes be college-aged characters, Amazon clearly believes they can apply The Boys' essence to many more spinoffs. There might be skepticism that The Boys: Mexico can keep up the universe's quality without much connection to the flagship series, but since the other spinoffs have worked so well, this one deserves the benefit of the doubt. Until these shows prove to be churned out to Prime Video's detriment, viewers can expect plenty more spinoffs of The Boys to come out after this next one.
The Boys, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, and Gen V are all streaming on Prime Video.
