  • Sister Sage's interest in turning Ryan into a hero reveals her ulterior plans, possibly to save him from Homelander.
  • The mysterious Sister Sage's secret agenda in The Boys season 4 raises questions about her intentions towards Ryan and Homelander.

Sister Sage may be secretly plotting something in the background of The Boys season 4, with this theory explaining that Ryan may be her real target. Sister Sage is one of the newest additions to The Seven in The Boys, with Homelander recruiting the smartest person on Earth in order to help his villainous plans. However, being the smartest person on Earth, it is likely that Sister Sage isn't simply helping Homelander out of the goodness of her heart. Instead, Sister Sage probably has ulterior motives in The Boys, with Ryan being her true target.

The Boys season 4 is finally here, with the highly anticipated continuation of Amazon Prime Video's critically acclaimed superhero series now releasing on the streaming service. The Boys season 4 picks up right where The Boys season 3 ended, with the titular team attempting to kill Victoria Neuman before she becomes Vice President of the United States while Butcher secretly attempts to keep going after Homelander. Meanwhile, Homelander is attempting to fill out the hip of The Seven, with an all-new supe named Sister Sage ing the ranks of the team in the season's three-episode premiere.

It's Not Totally Clear Why Sister Sage Is Helping Homelander In The Boys Season 4

Her Motivations Are A Secret

Sister Sage is now deeply entrenched in The Seven, with her role throughout the show's first three episodes involving her secretly helping Homelander to orchestrate his campaign against the Starlighters. However, it still isn't clear why Sister Sage is doing this. Sister Sage seems to have a disdain for Homelander and the other of The Seven, with her being condescending to characters like Homelander, The Deep, and Firecracker. Because of this, it seems strange that she is helping Homelander, as there is no apparent advantage for her.

Sister Sage even goes along with Homelander's plan for her to The Seven, something that she was initially against. At first, Sister Sage was acting like a puppet master in the shadows, with her not being interested in the fame that came with her becoming a member of The Seven. Because of this detail, it is clear that her hip on the team isn't the reason that she has decided to help Homelander, with it being likely that she is instead incentivized by something that hasn't been yet made clear to the audience.

Sister Sage Is Taking A Big Interest In Ryan Becoming A Hero

She Is Pushing Him In Certain Directions

While Sister Sage is involved with other aspects of The Seven's public image, the detail that she seems to be most interested in is Ryan. As the son of Homelander, Ryan is preparing to become a member of The Seven, with Homelander and Sister Sage working together to prepare him for fame. Homelander has even said that he is keeping a seat on The Seven open for Ryan, proving that his hero status is being fast-tracked by Vought.

Sister Sage has become heavily involved in turning Ryan into a public superhero, highlighting that her true intentions might have something to do with this evolution of Ryan. After all, Sister Sage had a major hand in orchestrating Ryan's first big save, with her working alongside Homelander to prepare Ryan for his big break. Sister Sage was also involved in picking things like Ryan's superhero costume, further showing that she hopes to influence Ryan's status as Vought's next big supe icon.

However, Sister Sage has pushed back against some aspects of Vought's Ryan campaign. The supe didn't want Ryan's identity to be associated with Homelander all that much despite them being a father and son team. Instead, Sister Sage wants Ryan to have his own supe identity, with her advocating for him to have a solo "chosen one" narrative. Details like this make it seem as if Sister Sage is trying to separate Ryan from Homelander, meaning that her true goal may be to save Ryan from his villainous father.

Sister Sage Suggests Ryan Will "Save The World"

Sister Sage Clearly Has Something Planned For Ryan

During the pitch meeting for Ryan's supe identity, Sister Sage makes an interesting comment that could secretly reveal her thoughts about Ryan. During the meeting, Sister Sage explains that she thinks that Ryan will "save the world," but she seems to think that this is unique from the other supes. Because of this strange comment, it is clear that Sister Sage believes that Ryan has a major role to play in the future of The Boys universe, and while this could be what is making her want to save him, it seems more likely that she has evil intentions.

Since Sister Sage's conversation with The Deep sets her up to be a supe supremacist, her interest in Ryan could have to do with the fact that he is the first naturally born supe in the world of The Boys. Sister Sage may want to get close to Ryan in order to study him, allowing her to figure out how to make other naturally born supes come about. While this is all speculation, most of the of The Seven throughout The Boys have been evil, so it is doubtful that Sister Sage is an exception.

Is Sister Sage Secretly Working To Save Ryan From Homelander?

And Is It Good Or Bad?

There is still a chance that Sister Sage is good, with Homelander and Sister Sage's true plans diverging from each other in a later episode. Sister Sage's interest in Ryan could have to do entirely with her saving him from Homelander. Sister Sage may see Ryan's rising starpower as being dangerous, with Homelander's potential jealousy leading to Ryan's death. The fact that Ryan is a naturally born supe could also put a target on his back by Homelnder and Vought, something that Sister Sage wants to save him from.

Sister Sage could work alongside Ryan to preserve the good in him, with her using him as a weapon against Homelander and Vought later in the season. After all, Ryan's powers make him one of the only supes who could actually defeat Homelander, an opinion that Jeffrey Dean Morgan's new The Boys character holds as well. Ryan is clearly one of the most valuable characters in the story of The Boys season 4, and Sister Sage may be the latest character ing the race to use him for her own plans.
