The Curse season 2 gets an unexpected update following the show's wild and divisive finale. Consisting of ten episodes, and debuting on Showtime in November 2023, The Curse is created by Nathan Fielder, known for Nathan For You and HBO's The Rehearsal, and Uncut Gems co-director Benny Safdie, with Emma Stone as an executive producer. The story focuses on how an alleged curse upends the relationship of a married couple, Asher (Fielder) and Whitney (Stone), as they try to launch an HGTV reality series centered on philanthropy and environmental housing.

As it hopes to compete in the Outstanding Drama categories at the next Primetime Emmys, Stone and Fielder discussed The Curse in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. When asked about the surprise ending of The Curse, Fielder responds: “It’s hard to talk about, too, because it’s a show where a story could potentially continue, so I don’t want to go fully into it.” Stone echoes the sentiment, with the two-time Oscar winner expressing the possibility of season 2. Their quotes are below:

FIELDER: Benny and I really want to make stuff that people can engage with. There’s the type of TV where you can sit on the couch and be on your phone half the time, which is fine. I watch that TV, too. But we wanted to try to make something where you have to engage with it to understand it and you’re feeling things when you’re watching it. It’s hard to talk about, too, because it’s a show where a story could potentially continue, so I don’t want to go fully into it.

So there could be another season?

FIELDER: Well, right now we’re all doing other things. But I think —

STONE: There could be.

FIELDER: There definitely could be. From the start, we had it mapped out beyond the first season.

With Asher involved?

FIELDER: I don’t want to spoil it.

How Would The Curse Season 2 Work?

The Finale Seemed Definitive

In the final episode of The Curse, after a brief opening where Asher and Whitney appear on the Rachael Ray Show, the bulk of the finale is spent with a nearly inexplicable mystery. Asher wakes up to find himself stuck to the ceiling and Whitney is unable to pull him down. When she tries, she ends up getting stuck with him. Asher essentially falls upwards. At first, the couple believe there is something wrong with the house.

Asher then ventures outside, away from any walls, which proves to be a fatal mistake. He flies into the air and manages to grab onto a sturdy tree branch. Meanwhile, Whitney goes into labor and has to leave Asher's side. With no one who saw what originally transpired, everyone assumes that Asher is having a panic attack. The fire department manages to cut down the branch, which sends Asher flying into space. One of the last visuals of The Curse shows Asher deceased, while Whitney celebrates their newborn in the hospital.

The Curse season 2 could explore different avenues given its absurdist nature. While the show does follow a narrative, it is willing to take chances with its storytelling. With the birth of the baby and Asher's death happening at the same time, Asher could return through reincarnation. The bizarre story could be why Fielder does not want to spoil if Asher returns.
