At the time, it was noted that the guest appearance could lead to a separate spinoff if it proved to be successful. The episode, titled "Sins of the Father", recently debuted, and the fate of the potential spinoff is now sealed.

Deadline is now reporting that The Equalizer's spinoff will not be moving forward at CBS. The news leaves The Equalizer season 6 as the only CBS project, whether a pilot or an ongoing series, that is still left in limbo. The latest update notes that the renewal for the Queen Latifah-led drama could go either way, with roughly an equal chance of being renewed or cancelled.

Financials Are A Key Consideration

The Equalizer season 6 could still happen. If it does get picked up, it would be for a final season that would consist of 13 episodes. This is somewhat less than the 18 episodes the action drama usually gets. CBS is continuing talks with Universal Television, which produces the series, and that is said to be a positive sign and a contrast to how other Universal TV shows (FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International) were quickly cancelled. As of now, despite financial considerations, it is noted that Queen Latifah is on board to keep discussions going.

The Equalizer spinoff would have featured Welliver as Elijah Reed. A former CIA agent with a dark secret, Reed is connected to Queen Latifah's character, Robyn McCall, through an old mentor. Feliz, meanwhile, would have played his daughter. Even though The Equalizer season 6 remains a possibility, CBS made a call based on the number of scripted series it already has on schedule. A potential spinoff of The Neighborhood is also not happening.

While the spinoff may not be moving forward, the fate of The Equalizer should be decided in the coming weeks.
