With season 6 of the scintillating sci-fi Amazon Original The Expanse set to premiere on December 10, 2021, all eyes turn to the fate of the Rocinante and its crew . Many of which are called upon over the series to show tremendous courage in their line of work. At last blush, a mysterious extraterrestrial structure used the proto-molecule to begin orbiting Laconia. This leaves it up to the bravest crew to take action before it's too late.
Whether it's Alex, Naomi, Cammina, or Amos, Julie, Marco, and more, supreme gallantry is in order if the of the Rocinante intend to survive their harrowing new missions in the final season of The Expanse.
Naomi Nagata
As the chief engineer of the Rocinante, Naomi Nagata shows the least amount of bravery of any main character on the show. Often using her vast intellect and pacifistic beliefs to avoid violence, Naomi uses her ingenuity and spontaneous creativity to keep the crew out of tight jams.
With that said, Naomi becomes bolder and more assertive when her estranged son Filip shows up, mounting the courage to rescue him despite Marco's dogged attempt to prevent it. If there's a fine line between bravery and stupidity, Naomi avoids the line by being the most intelligent character on the show.
Marco Inaros
Defined more by charming mendacity and the craven quest for power than by inherent gallantry, Marco Inaros is an OPA operative and leading Belter whose ambition often outreaches his execution. After hiding his son Filip from Naomi, Marco plans to liberate humans from the long-held war between Earth and Mars.
Alas, Marco's lofty plans are hardly backed up by brave actions. Instead, he allows Filip to do much of the dirty work before taking credit for himself. Manipulative and egomaniacal, Marco acts far braver than he is.
Julie Mao
As the missing daughter of the ultra-powerful CEO Jules-Pierre Mao, Julie Mao spends much of her time on The Expanse as a likable damsel in distress that Joseph Miller is hired to search for. Over time, however, Julie begins deeply assertive in her actions and bravely sacrifices her life to destroy the almighty proto-molecule.
After bravely running away from her family and teaching herself archery, Julie was kidnapped and held hostage by the crew of the Anubis, prompting a massive search for her whereabouts. In the end, Julie was the only sentient being to deliberately fight back against the proto-molecule, which tragically proved fatal.
Joseph Miller
As a grizzled and cynical detective cut from the cloth of film noir, Joseph Miller bravely hunts the most ruthless criminals on Ceres. The orphan with a scarred past has little to live for until he is assigned to find Julie Mao, which gives him newfound vigor and purpose.
When Miller gets too deep into the case and is warned to drop it or face dire consequences, he gallantly doubles down and works to find Julie. Having boldly escaped capture and torture by Anderson Dawes, Miller gives his life to rescue Julie and billions of innocent lives in the process after Eros crashed into Venus.
Bobbie Draper
Serving as the Gunnery Sergeant in the Martian Marine Corps, Bobbie Draper not only showed tremendous bravery by defecting to the United Nations on Earth but she was also hired to protect the all-important Avasarala as well.
In addition to bravely liaisoning between the MCR and the UN, playing both sides against each other the best she can, Bobbie's most intrepid moment came when rescuing Naomi moments before her life became depleted after the Rocinante landed on Luna.
Amos Burton
As a master survivor and skilled fighter, Amos Burton is a tough blue-collar mechanic of the Rocinante whose hardscrabble upbringing has steeled him for any scary situation. Defined by brute strength and a lack of remorse, Amos happily takes on the most perilous missions asked of him. He also personally protects his friend, Naomi.
Most recently in season 5 of the stellar sci-fi TV show, Amos led a harrowing defensive stand when enemies ambush his crew, allowing the survivors to successfully launch their way to Luna. Afterward, Amos brazenly tricks Holden into giving Clarissa safe age, which ends up saving her life.
Fred Johnson
Also known as "The Butcher of Anderson Station," a key flashback showing how Captain Fred Johnson earned the macabre nickname shows how intrepid the military leader truly is. Johnson once led a massive attack on a space station populated with protest miners, killing all of them in a fierce show of bravery. As a result, he earned a major promotion.
After destroying 12 pirate ships, two bases, and killing 173 enemies in Anderson Station, Fred's bravery was reinforced when he left the Marine Corps to the fight for the OPA, an oppressed and under-resourced regime.
James Holden
As the fearless leader of the Rocinante on The Expanse, Captain James Holden requires a high level of bravery to man the ship into perilous unknown territory. Not only is James adept at using firearms without hesitation, but he is the number one decision-maker who holds the fate of all Rocinante crew in his hands.
With too many heroic moments to cont, one of Holden's boldest moments came when taking out the Zmeya spaceship after winning an intense gun battle, which proved extremely vital to ultimately finding and rescuing Naomi.
Camina Drummer
As the tough, no-nonsense Belter captain of the Dewalt spaceship, Camina Drummer gallantly leads her crew directly into the face of danger time and again on the show. Unafraid to speak her mind, take her own action, and confront her own ally Fred at every turn, Camina eventually becomes the head of security at Tycho Station and captain of the Behemoth and Medina Station.
Camina's short temper led to arguably her most bold and brave moment on the show when she swiftly executed two of her own men, Edin and Staz, after they betrayed her. Bolder yet, Camina didn't even wait for the medic to dress her wounds before she brazenly killed the pair. She's even bold enough to betray Karal and save the Rocinante from demolition.
Alex Kamal
As the chief pilot of various spaceships tasked with guiding the crew into dangerously uncharted corners of the cosmos, Martian Alex Kamal is a courageous character. He makes daring rescue attempts time and again on the show, and often delivers the main character safely from harm.
The daring acrobatic maneuvers Alex pulls in the Rocinante are an exhilarating sight to behold, but it's his warm avuncular nature that always puts him in the position to save the crew in their most dire and desperate times. Alex's bravest moment cost him his life, attempting to dock the ship at extremely high G-force.
