WARNING: This article includes SPOILERS from The Flash movie. If The Flash 2 ever ends up happening, the murderer who killed Barry Allen's mother is set to stay true to the comics. Barry Allen has officially returned to the big screens as Ezra Miller reprises the role of the Scarlet Speedster in The Flash movie, focusing on the DC hero's journey through the multiverse. One of the central plots of the DCEU adventure was trying to undo Nora Allen's tragic death, as she was mysteriously murdered during Barry's childhood. But at the end of the film, it is never actually revealed who took Nora's life.

However, if The Flash 2 was to get greenlit, the mystery would have been properly answered, according to director Andy Muschietti. In an interview with Ezra Miller's The Flash 2 would have been the right thing, sharing the following:

Well, Reverse Flash is the elephant in the room, right? It feels like you can’t make another movie without addressing the one that, in all s, is the murderer of Barry’s mom. So, it feels like the big villain.

The Flash 2 Story Introducing The Reverse Flash Would Have Been Perfect

reverse flash in dc comics flashpoint

Even though Reverse-Flash is the main enemy in Flashpoint - the DC storyline The Flash movie pulled inspiration from - the film was already packed and would have made it hard for Eobard to have a huge role. However, that is why The Flash 2 would have been the perfect follow-up to properly introduce the DCEU's version of Reverse-Flash. It would also allow The Flash sequel to tackle Eobard entirely differently from Tom Cavanagh and Matt Letscher's incarnations in The Flash TV show.

Having Barry not only deal with this new universe that he is stuck in, but also discover that his mother's murderer is another speedster with a massive hatred for The Flash in the future would amp the stakes of the sequel, raising the stakes suitably for the follow-up to The Flash. There are even elements of Reverse-Flash that the Arrowverse was never able to get to, which The Flash 2 could explore and thus make the cinematic version of Eobard refreshing. From an emotional standpoint, it would also be a compelling story to see Barry having to be pulled right back into his trauma after being able to get his father out of jail.

The bigger problem right now is that fans shouldn't expect The Flash 2 to happen, meaning they will likely never get their Reverse-Flash payoff. With a struggling opening box office weekend to mixed reactions to the film, DC Studios are probably going to continue to keep their focus on crafting the new DC Universe. But for now, time will tell if The Flash 2 will actually come to fruition.
