Grant Gustin comments on who should play The Flash movie became a box office bomb, leading to James Gunn claiming DC is "taking a beat" on development of the character. That leaves the door open for Barry Allen to be recast.
At Comic Con Liverpool (via Flashverse_yt/Twitter), Grant Gustin refused to give any suggestions for who should play the DCU's The Flash.
According to the actor, he does not want to give DC good picks for the role, joking, "I’m not giving them any good casting ideas." Even though his tenure as Barry Allen and the Arrowverse as a whole have come to an end, several fans still hope Gustin could come back as The Flash of DC's movies. Based on the actor's new comments, it seems like Gustin is also open to that idea.
What Grant Gustin's DCU The Flash Comments Mean
The Arrowverse Actor's Joke Could Lead To Something Bigger
Since Ezra Miller's version of The Flash was far from beloved and the actor's solo movie as Barry Allen became a major box office bomb, DC fans have turned to campaigning for Gustin to become the DCU's Flash. That has made its way to the highest level of DC management. DC Studios' co-CEO, James Gunn, claimed he would love to work with Gustin when asked about how the actor's talents could be going to waste since DC was not using him.

Recasting 10 Arrowverse Stars For James Gunn’s DC Universe
Arrowverse stars like Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell are open to ing the DCU, and there are exciting characters the DC TV stars could play.
According to Gunn, Gustin is an incredibly talented performer whose talents are not going to waste by not being in a DC project. Gunn then revealed that he would love to work with Gustin in the future, opening the door for The Flash star to play the DCU's Barry Allen or another character in the franchise. While nothing has come of that just yet, Gustin's decision not to suggest possible actors for the DCU's The Flash could mean he holds out hope that he could be called upon by Gunn for the role, which he previously said he would accept.
Our Take On Grant Gustin's DCU The Flash Comments
James Gunn's DC Universe Has The Perfect Barry Allen Choice
Grant Gustin is easily the most popular live-action version of The Flash. The actor's performance as Barry Allen remained gripping even when his show and the Arrowverse faltered. With better writing, VFX, and more, I think Gustin could make his DC mark as one of the best live-action movie heroes if he ed the DCU. Based on his comments, Gustin is still open to coming back as The Flash instead of seeing someone take on the role for the big screen. The DCU needs to get the audience back on DC's side, and Gustin, as The Flash, helps that goal.
