The Flash movie, set to reboot the DC Universe, could have a sequel as director Andy Muschietti offers an update on future installments. After running for a decade, the DCEU is coming to an end so that James Gunn's DC Universe can come to life. While The Flash movie will reboot the DCEU into the DC Universe, the film will still tell one of Barry Allen's biggest stories on the big screen.

Even though The Flash will serve as a reset for Warner Bros., there may still be chances for a sequel. According to Muschietti, who directed The Flash movie, there weren't any major talks about sequels initially when the film was being made. However, while talking to Collider, it remains to be seen if The Flash 2 will happen, especially in light of DC Studios' new franchise coming up.

We didn't talk about it. I think that we're all waiting to see how this movie does. Of course, there's excitement about continuing the story, especially if this movie is successful. Of course, there's an architecture in DC that is brewing and it's being created. And the question is, will this new architecture absorb this story? The good thing about the multiverse is that it is possible. The multiverse allows all of these different worlds to coexist and interact, and so, hopefully, yes, I mean, we don't know yet. That's the truth.

Does The Flash Have Any Realistic Potential For Sequels?

Ezra Miller as The Flash In The Flash Movie

Even though the DC Universe is going mostly in a new direction thanks to The Flash, Gunn has made it clear that other DCEU players could potentially continue. Several Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad stars are already lined up for the new franchise, including through the Waller TV show. It has yet to be determined if Jason Momoa will be done as Aquaman after his sequel, which comes out this December.

However, if The Flash movie turns out to be both a critical and commercial success, it may encourage Warner Bros. to continue the Scarlet Speedster's franchise in some capacity. Even if The Flash 2 were to happen, it could always continue as an Elseworlds franchise rather than have any ties to the new DC Universe. It also remains to be seen whether or not Ezra Miller will be brought back. To this point, DC Studios and Warner Bros. have been very tight-lipped about if Miller will continue as The Flash.

With The Flash movie coming out in less than two months, it will be interesting to follow its box office trajectory. While the DCEU installment may be a critical hit, any sequel opportunities will likely depend on its financial success. But for now, The Flash is focused on being the best single movie it can be.
