The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos may be heartbroken because of Pascal Ibgui’s decision to leave the series, but his clarity surrounding Chock Chapple could be worth listening to. Throughout the run of The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Joan has been getting to know a great group of guys, with a few minor exceptions. Bachelor Nation has been looking to find the next villain of the franchise, especially after Gerry Turner’s experiences on the spin-off show’s first season. While there have been some interesting candidates, Chock has come out as one of the front-runners for the villain of the season.
During the most recent episode of The Golden Bachelorette, Joan was surprised when Pascal decided that he was ready to leave the series. Though he and Joan had been building a wonderful connection, he wasn’t fully invested in the relationship he had with her. He decided to bow out and let the others still standing take Joan’s attention. While the cast of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 has been somewhat of a letdown, Pascal’s decision to leave made sense, and seemed like a kindness more than a difficulty. His words about Chock, however, offered some serious clarity for Bachelor Nation.
Joan Has Been Living In Gerry’s Shadow
He Ruined The Golden Bachelor Season 1
Throughout The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Joan has been in the shadow of the first Golden Bachelor, Gerry. During his abysmal turn as The Golden Bachelor, Gerry was looking for a connection to last a lifetime. Unfortunately, his time on the series didn’t end in happy, lasting marriage, as Gerry lied about his life before the show during his time as the lead. Projecting a wholesome personality, Gerry led viewers to believe he would be making a mindful, careful decision about his future partner. Instead, his marriage to Theresa Nist only lasted three months, which gave viewers pause.

Gerry’s time on the Golden side of the Bachelor franchise has been something that Joan’s had to deal with throughout her time as the lead. Viewers of The Golden Bachelor were already skeptical of the show coming into the season, even though they gave Joan much more credit than Gerry. After some difficulties with Joan’s contestants throughout the season, including finalist Guy Gansert having a restraining order against him from an ex, things have been better when it comes to navigating the leading role. Even so, any scandals associated with The Golden Bachelorette will be major for Bachelor Nation.
Pascal Chose To Leave Joan Behind
He Spoke Out About Chock’s Behavior
Pascal’s decision to leave The Golden Bachelorette may not necessarily qualify as a scandal, but it wasn’t entirely surprising for Bachelor Nation after watching the season. While the remaining men on The Golden Bachelorette season 1 are both fostering deep connections with Joan, neither may be the right fit. While Guy has had some difficult allegations lodged against him, Chock has been more of an enigma throughout the season. While Chock’s connection with Joan seems genuine at times, it’s been questioned more often than not. According to Pascal, Chock behaved like a stalker toward Joan frequently during the show’s filming.
Pascal’s Warning About Chock’s Red Flags Is Serious
He Has Nothing To Lose Calling Chock Out
Pascal’s warning about Chock is giving Bachelor Nation even more stress over Joan’s final decision. While she could wind up with Guy, who she’s had a decent connection with, he’d have some difficult things to explain about his life outside of the show. It seems more likely, however, that she’ll wind up choosing Chock in the end. Her connection with Chock has been stronger, but his behavior toward the rest of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 cast has been odd, and his relationship with Joan has rubbed viewers the wrong way. It’s possible that after The Golden Bachelorette, Joan could still be on her own.
The Golden Bachelorette airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
