Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Handmaid's Tale season 6, episode 7!
June and Nick's romance has been one of the main storylines throughout The Handmaid's Tale, but as The Handmaid's Tale season 6 is drawing to a close, it is starting to seem like June may have to kill Nick. Throughout the previous seasons, Nick has been one of June's most reliable allies, with him helping her and Mayday whenever they need information from or access to Gilead. However, the tables have turned in The Handmaid's Tale season 6, with June no longer trusting Nick to the point where her newest plan may kill him.
The Handmaid's Tale season 6, episode 7, with Commander Lawrence giving her a new idea. June decides that the next best move for Mayday is to attack Serena Joy and Commander Wharton's wedding. The episode ends as June begins to put this plan in motion, although the role of Nick in The Handmaid's Tale's final episodes still remains a mystery.
Nick Will Be Among The Commanders At Serena Joy's Wedding
Meaning That He Is A Target
The Handmaid's Tale season 6, episode 7 reveals that June is now planning on turning Serena Joy and Commander Wharton's wedding into a killing field. While talking with Commander Lawrence, he mentions that nearly everyone will be in attendance, including Handmaids and some of Gilead's most powerful Commanders. This causes June to make the wedding her next big target, with her and Moira planning on sneaking knives into the ceremony. The plan is shaping up to work, but there is one big contingency in the form of Nick.

Why Lawrence Sends Aunt Lydia To D.C. & Is She Going To Find June In The Handmaid's Tale?
The Handmaid's Tale season 6, episode 7 sees June come up with a new way to hurt Gilead, but Commander Lawrence has to get rid of Aunt Lydia first.
Nick will be among the Commanders at Serena Joy and Commander Wharton's wedding, meaning that he will obviously be a target in the attack. The Commanders of Gilead and the other Handmaids don't know that Nick has been working with Mayday. Even if they know Nick's name, they probably don't know what he looks like. Because of this, it is entirely possible that a Handmaid could kill Nick during the wedding attack. If June tells people to stay away from him, it risks exposing his collaboration, potentially putting him in even more danger.
However, there is no way that June is going to tell Nick about this attack. Nick's conversation with Commander Wharton has already betrayed June's trust once, leading to the deaths of the women in Jezebel's. Thus, June probably won't tell him about this attack, as he easily could tell Wharton about it as well. Even if June could tell Nick, she may not want to. It is possible that Nick has hurt her so badly that she is ok letting him die, meaning that Serena Joy's wedding may be right where June wants him.
It Could Be Hard To Guarantee Nick's Safety At The Wedding
With So Many Moving Parts
If June does want to keep Nick safe, it will be difficult to guarantee that he isn't killed. Commander Lawrence has already talked about the mass number of Handmaids that will be there, and it would be difficult to inform each of them about who Nick is and why he shouldn't be killed. Nick could be simply caught in the crossfire, being killed by one of the many Handmaids who are part of the attack.
Even if everyone involved with Mayday knows about Nick, it is still difficult to guarantee his safety. After all, the attack is much bigger than a series of stabbings. While planning the attack, Luke mentions that Mayday still has bombs in place. If these bombs are used, it would be incredibly easy for one to take Nick by surprise, with him either dying in the explosion or due to the debris. Luke also mentions that the United States will use the attack to get vehicles into Gilead, with any one of these vehicles or American soldiers having the potential to kill Nick after the wedding.
Nick Dying Makes Sense In The Handmaid's Tale
After His Betrayal Of June
Although it would be tragic, Nick's death actually makes sense for the final season of The Handmaid's Tale. After Nick's betrayal, there isn't much left for him to do in the show. If Nick lives, he will probably spend the rest of his days in Gilead or New Bethlehem, not doing much with his time. Killing him off during the wedding attack would allow The Handmaid's Tale to have a major loss that isn't super consequential to the rest of the show's story. It would also divide audiences, with some missing him and other praising his death after his big betrayal.
On top of that, his death is the perfect way to resolve June, Luke, and Nick's love triangle. June and Nick's relationship is undoubtedly over, as she would never go back to him after his betrayal. However, killing Nick off means that June wouldn't even be able to make this choice. This could lead to a more interesting dynamic between June and Luke, with Luke knowing that June was left with only him rather than her choosing him over Nick.
Would June Be Prepared To Kill Nick If Needed?
Does She Want To Kill Him?
While there are plenty of ways for Nick to die in the coming episodes of The Handmaid's Tale, one of the most interesting would be for June to kill him. If The Handmaid's Tale can put June in a situation where she must kill Nick, it would be an interesting way to wrap up his story. It would truly test June's powers of forgiveness and how upset she is with Nick. This would be a great thematic ending, although it would probably upset some The Handmaid's Tale viewers.

D'Arcy Carden's The Handmaid's Tale Character Explained
The Handmaid's Tale season 6, episode 7 has introduced an all-new character, and here's who she is and why she is so important to the show.
While June used to love Nick, it seems like she has what it takes to kill him. June has become cold and distant, with her being willing to do whatever it takes to defeat Gilead. If Nick is the obstacle that threatens to stop June, it wouldn't be surprising for June to take him down. This would be a huge character moment, showing how dedicated she is to taking down Gilead before the end of The Handmaid's Tale.
