The dystopian place, and many of the characters go through truly traumatic things.

While some of the characters from the series had great arcs or got what they deserved in the end, whether that was a good or bad ending, others definitely deserved more.

Deserved More: Finnick Odair

Annie and Finnick marry in Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

Finnick Odair was a Hunger Games victor from District 4 who competed in the Quarter Quell. He was one of Katniss’ allies who fought with her and District 13 against the Capitol.

Many fans loved this character, and when he died during a Mutt attack while fighting through the Capitol, it was really sad. Finnick has a tragic backstory, and he never really got to have the happiness he deserved. The fact that he died just after marrying Annie and never got to meet his son was even worse.

Got Their Due: Haymitch Abernathy

Haymitch

Haymitch is another character who went through some horrible things as he was another Hunger Games victor who won the second Quarter Quell. Haymitch starts out as a rather seemingly uncaring mentor to Katniss and Petta, but he shows that he’s much more than that.

While he’s a deeply flawed character, and it’s not like anything that happened to him is fair, his ending felt right for the character.

Deserved More: Primrose Everdeen

Primrose

One of the most tragic deaths of the entire series was Prim. After Katniss had started everything by volunteering for Prim in order to save her life, to have Prim die just barely before the Capitol was taken over was truly horrible.

However, it does show just how awful war can be. While Prim deserved more, it was a realistic moment that showed the cost of innocent life.

Got Their Due: President Snow

President Coriolanus Snow from Hunger Games

President Snow definitely deserved to die after everything awful that he had done. However, the only problem with his ending is that he didn’t ever really completely have to pay for all he had done.

Snow ended up dying after Katniss shot Coin, but it’s not clear whether he choked on his own blood or was trampled. However, the fact that he had an unremarkable death was poetic in its own way.

Deserved More: Rue

Rue - Hunger Games Facts

Rue is another character who didn’t deserve anything that happened to her.

Her death was one of the most tragic and heartbreaking moments in the entire series. She was only 12 years old when she became the tribute from District 11. Her death showed just how barbaric the Hunger Games was, and it was a rallying point for the uprising.

Got Their Due: Gale Hawthorne

Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) holding a rifle pointed downward in The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1.

Gale is another person who suffers, just like almost every character from the series, but he gets a fitting ending for his personality and character trajectory.

Given his somewhat callous attitude toward the loss of life, it makes sense that he didn’t end up with Katniss and integrated so well into the new government. He ended up with a fancy job in District 2, but it’s not known exactly what he did.

Deserved More: Cinna

Lenny Kravitz as Cinna

While some of the saddest deaths from The Hunger Games are the children and teens that die, another one that was especially hard to deal with was Cinna. He started out as a stylist for the games, but he showed himself to be a rather subversive, intelligent, caring member of the rebellion.

His death happened way too early, and it was devastating to Katniss and to fans.

Got Their Due: Peeta Mellark

Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games.

Peeta is someone who was put through a lot of trauma and tragedy over the course of the books. He had to compete in the games twice, and he was then tortured by the Capitol.

While these things are awful, he did at least get the ending that he always wanted. He was able to find some kind of peace with Katniss and be a father to two children.

Deserved More: Katniss Everdeen

Katniss crouching and looking to the distance in The Hunger Games.

Katniss is the main character of a love triangle makes up such a big part of the books, she’s never that interested in it.

While she did a lot of heroic things, it never made much sense for her to settle down into the life of wife and mother, and it just didn’t feel right for the character.

Got Their Due: President Coin

Julianne Moore as President Coin in The Hunger Games

President Coin seems like somewhat of a savior figure at first, but she turns out to be rather conniving and untrustworthy.

This character shows how easy it is for leaders and governments to become corrupted. While it might have been shocking, the idea of democracy in Panem wouldn’t have been able to thrive if she had stayed alive.
