- Without Bird's involvement, Incredibles 3 would have been a major risk for Pixar.
- Bird's track record in animation makes him the perfect choice to extend the beloved franchise.
Pixar came though with their massive Brad Bird would be returning to direct the highly anticipated third installment. After the release of the original Incredibles movie in 2004, which earned an outstanding score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film won two Oscars including Best Animated Feature. There is no set release date for The Incredibles 3 as of the time of writing.
The Incredibles 2 was finally released fourteen years later in 2018 and was nominated for Best Animated Feature as well, but ultimately lost to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Both installments of The Incredibles franchise are considered some of the most cherished movies in Pixar's elaborate filmography, which is why it's no surprise that The Incredibles 3 was finally given the official greenlight. Nothing else was reported or shown on The Incredibles 3 at D23 2024 besides the fact that it is officially in development and Bird will direct.
Brad Bird Is Writing & Directing The Incredibles 3
Bird is undoubtedly the safest bet to round out the trilogy
Pixar seemed to take note that without the direct involvement of Brad Bird, there would be no true Incredibles 3. Bird wrote the screenplays and directed both of the previous installments of The Incredibles franchise, making him a vital and essentially irreplaceable part of the celebrated movie series. Considering that both of The Incredibles movies were nominated for Oscars under his direction, with the original movie winning, Bird is undoubtedly the safest bet to round out the trilogy.
Brad Bird is not only widely acclaimed for his work on The Incredibles, but he is at large a legend in animation for his work on other celebrated classics. His feature directorial debut was 1999's The Iron Giant, which is still considered one of the greatest animated features ever made. Bird also wrote and directed 2007's Ratatouille, which also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. On top of all that, he directed Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, which essentially launched the critically acclaimed franchise expansion that led to M:I Fallout and Dead Reckoning.

The Incredibles 3 Would Have Been A Major Risk Without Brad Bird
Bird has a shot at making one of the best animated trilogies of all time
If The Incredibles is going to make a big return in the 2020s, it has to pack an equally hard punch as the previous two installments. The box office should hold up fine based on the massive appeal of the franchise name alone since The Incredibles 1 & 2 have earned a combined $1.8 billion. However, if Incredibles 3 drops vastly in quality, then Pixar will have worn out one of its most prized possessions. Getting Bird onboard was the only way to make sure The Incredibles 3 could extend the franchise and make it one of the best of all time, as opposed to deflating it. Plus, Bird deserves his shot at completing the trilogy, which he now has.
