The Last of Us season 1 was such a success that one of the biggest concerns for the season is that it won't be able to live up to its predecessor. Though The Last of Us season 2 has some immense shoes to fill, it now looks like it will be more than capable of matching - or even suring - the first season's quality. A new trailer has proven that The Last of Us season 2 is matching the first season in one key way: it will be just as faithful to the video games.

The Last Of Us Season 2 Trailer Confirms It's Maintaining Season 1's Video Game Accuracy

One of the best parts about The Last of Us season 1 was how accurate it was to the video games, and it now seems that The Last of Us season 2 has a similar level of respect for its source material. The trailer for The Last of Us season 2 included some key moments that came straight from The Last of Us Part II. There were shots of Abby crawling under a fence as the infected clawed at her, a snippet of Ellie (with her arm tattoo) singing to Dina, and even the song Joel sang to Ellie, just to name a few.

Why Being Faithful To The Last Of Us' Games Is So Important For Season 2's Story & Themes

While The Last of Us season 2's video game accuracy doesn't seem like a very big deal, it's quite important to the story. So much of what The Last of Us Part II tries to say - its messages about grief, revenge, moving on and more - are defined by precise events and small moments between those events. The exact circumstances of Joel's death, for example, are critical to Ellie viewing Abby as a villain. Changing them even a little bit would change the games' message, so it's a great sign that The Last of Us season 2 is being so faithful.
