Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Last of Us season 2's episode 2.

Before it walks through its grim ending, The Last of Us season 2's episode 2 features a WLF wolf patch tease, which hints at how Dina might help Ellie find Abby. Long before Ellie experiences the heartrending tragedy of losing Joel, Abby tricks Joel and Dina and cleverly leads them to her group to ensure the two characters are outnumbered and unable to escape. Since Abby only wishes to exact revenge on Joel for killing her father, Dina is injected with a sedative and put to sleep before Abby tortures Joel.

In the scenes that follow, Abby first tells Joel who she is and recalls how she had once vowed never to hurt the defenseless. She then proceeds to defy her own rule by brutally beating up Joel with a golf club, highlighting how her father's death impacted her. The ruthlessness with which Abby assaults Joel before finally killing him shows how she has desired only revenge for a very long time. While Abby does her thing, Ellie is helplessly forced to watch Joel die. Only time will tell how Ellie will retaliate, but The Last of Us season 2's episode 2 seems to have already hinted at how Dina might help her.

Dina Notices That Abby's Group Wears WLF Patches In The Last Of Us Season 2

The Patch Might Have Revealed Where Abby And Her Group Are Going

Moments before Dina loses consciousness and falls to the ground, she notices a "WLF" wolf patch on Abby and her group's jackets. This subtle detail in the series not only adds another major group of individuals to the mix but also highlights how only Dina might be able to help Ellie avenge Joel's death. Since Abby and her crew leave Dina and Ellie behind after killing Joel, Dina taking notice of the "WLF" patch on their jackets might become a crucial clue for Ellie to track them down. According to The Last of Us' lore, "WLF" refers to the Washington Liberation Front.

... Abby and her group are not on the same page about seeking an eye for an eye despite their shared WLF affiliation.

The Last of Us' premiere revealed that, before season 2's five-year time jump, Abby and her crew were a part of the Fireflies. However, after Joel went on a brutal rampage against the Fireflies in The Last of Us season 1's ending moments and killed nearly all its , the group was almost entirely eradicated.

The remaining few of the Fireflies, including Abby, eventually headed to Seattle and ed WLF. As their dynamic in The Last of Us season 2's episode 2 suggests, Abby and her group are not on the same page about seeking an eye for an eye despite their shared WLF affiliation.

The WLF Patches Mean Dina Can Help Ellie Track Down The Wolves To Find Abby

Seattle Should Be Ellie's Next Destination To Seek Revenge

Since the WLF's , who refer to themselves as the Wolves, operate out of Seattle, Ellie will likely head north after learning about Abby and her group's association with the faction from Dina. The Last of Us season 2 episode 3's preview also teases this by featuring a scene where Dina tells Ellie that she "knows their names...and where they are from." She even seems to draw the WLF logo on a piece of paper to give Ellie a visual reference of Abby and her group's affiliation.

The preview also gives a glimpse of all the advanced military-grade weaponry the WLF possesses before showing how Ellie trains to become stronger to be able to exact revenge on Abby. All these subtle developments almost confirm that the next arc in the HBO series will follow Ellie's hunt for vengeance as she sets out to track Abby down. While it is tragic that Joel will not actively be a part of The Last of Us' future narratives and only likely appear in flashbacks, Ellie and Abby's hinted future keeps things exciting.
