Librarian film series, aired on TNT from 2014 to 2018. In 2023, The CW announced development of the sequel show The Librarians: The Next Chapter, before pulling the series from its lineup. TNT then acquired the show, which is set to star Callum McGowan, Jessica Green, and Olivia Morris, and will see the return of original series star Christian Kane, and also ordered a second season.

In an interview with ScreenRant, showrunner Dean Devlin provided an exciting update on the progress of season 2 of the show. Devlin reveals that season 2 is currently halfway through shooting, and also revealed that he will be shooting season 3 of The Ark in several weeks as well. He revealed that it was incredible that season 2 was already halfway through shooting, and that it was going to be a crazy year. Check out Devlin's comments below:

We are halfway through shooting season 2, which is incredible, and in about four weeks, we start shooting season 3 of The Ark. So, it's going to be a crazy year.

What This Means For The Librarians: The Next Chapter

The Show Could Have An Exciting Future

The fact TNT ordered a second season is a positive development, and shows the network has faith in the potential long-term success of the series. The original show ran four seasons, and there is a good chance that The Librarians: The Next Chapter story could run for a similar length, or longer. TNT has been integral to the franchise's development, and this bodes well for the long-term future of the show. The fact season 2 is halfway through shooting also means it could be set to drop next year, and it may not be long until season 3 is renewed.

With a new cast of characters, along with the return of Kane, the pieces are in place for the show to have a strong debut. The show could be set to have an exciting future, and if season 1 posts strong ratings, TNT could well initiate another renewal. Devlin's continued presence will be key to the show's growth, and the hope will be he finds time to juggle The Next Chapter alongside other commitments.

Our Take On The Librarians: The Next Chapter's Season 2 Update

With Season 2 On The Horizon, The Series Has Room To Grow

Callum McGowan The Librarians The Next Chapter

Knowing that The Librarians: The Next Chapter is guaranteed to run at least two seasons is positive because it allows the show to grow organically. When TV shows debut with no guarantee of a renewal, writers need to pack so much into one season, which can lead to rushed and overstuffed storylines. However, with season 2 guaranteed in this case, Devlin and his team will be able to perfect the pacing, character arcs, and story beats of the show, and this could help to improve the quality of the storytelling, and set The Librarians: The Next Chapter up for success.
