The Library has found a new group of heroes to protect the world from magic in record-breaking Indian action epic RRR, as well as BritBox's period drama Hotel Portofino and multinational psychological thriller The Head. Morris is ed in The Librarians sequel show by Callum McGowan, Bluey Robinson, Jessica Green and Caroline Loncq, with special guest appearances from Christian Kane reprising his role of Jacob Stone.

Morris stars in The Librarians: The Next Chapter as Lysa Pascal, a respected scientist who is surprised to learn that she has inherited a castle in Belgrade, Serbia from a family member she didn't know she had. As she's shown the property by its caretaker, she stumbles upon Robinson's Connor, a historian kicked out of academia due to his belief in magic, as well as a mysterious painting of someone bearing a resemblance to her. When she subsequently meets McGowan's time-displaced Librarian, Vikram Chamberlain, and learns of the world of magic, Lysa elects to stay to determine the scientific nature of it.

In anticipation of the show's premiere, ScreenRant interviewed Olivia Morris to discuss The Librarians: The Next Chapter. The star opened up about her delight at ing the adventurous world of the fantasy franchise, as well as the unique nature of playing a skeptic in the show, how her arc will evolve over the course of the 12-episode first season, working with the original stars returning for the sequel, as well as a progress update on season 2.

Morris Found It A Delight To "Play Against" Characters Who Believed In Magic

"She Doesn't Live In That World, And We Suddenly Meet Her With It All Crumbling Down Around Her."

While the original Librarians show began with Rebecca Romijn's Eve and John Harlan Kim's Ezekiel having their doubts, they were quickly won over by the world of magic and embraced it further throughout their adventures. As such, Morris' character proves to be a fresh addition to the universe with her skepticism, being more akin to The X-Files than the others, as she seeks to disprove what they encounter on their journeys.

Morris recalls how, from the moment she first read the description of Lysa, she knew "this [was] going to be great fun to play", and that she "absolutely loves" her character. Morris also found it "such a brilliant way to start a character" and "great opportunity to make the arc huge" by having Lysa start off with her life in rockier territory. "You have this scientist who has always believed she's understood the world and how it works," Morris described. "Things are black or white, they're not gray. She doesn't live in that world, and we suddenly meet her with it all crumbling down around her."

You are going to get so many opportunities to meet all of these characters in different partnerships and different couplings.

One of the biggest assets she found to authentically play Lysa's skepticism was her collaboration with the rest of the show's cast, as "she doesn't meet people like that," and all of their dedication to magic made it easier to "push back against." "Cal is just larger than life and absolutely fantastical," Morris chuckled, "and it was so fun to play against these characters. Then you meet Jess coming off a motorbike, taking her hair out, and Lysa's never met a woman like that either, so she's just like, 'This is crazy.'"

Much like the original Librarians, The Next Chapter does feature plenty of scenes with all four stars together, but will also split them off into "little pairs," which Morris describes as being "always so different." The star beamed as she teased that "Vikram and Lysa have such a fun dynamic" while pointing to the rest of the group as having "such a great amount of contrast" that it led to them unlocking new layers in their characters. "You are going to get so many opportunities to meet all of these characters in different partnerships and different couplings," Morris said with a smile.

One of the biggest elements introduced in the first Librarians: The Next Chapter episodes is the tease of Lysa and Vikram having some kind of past with one another, and her ancestors' relationship with a maniacal dictator, General Gregor. While Morris is careful not to share too much about how this will evolve, she does tease that "fans are going to get to see a different story being told", and that these reveals will lead to "different dynamics and different relationships for the group".

Vikram is a Librarian out of time. He's not meant to be in the modern day. He's meant to be in the 1800s with his family and his people, and we're now his people, and I wonder what that will mean for his old family. I'm going to leave that there.

Morris Is "So Grateful" To Be Part Of "Such A Massive World And A Massive Legacy"

Working With Returning Stars Washed Away "Any Of Our Nerves Or Uncertainty"

Leverage: Redemption before it, The Librarians: The Next Chapter continues the ever-growing world of the adventure franchise, which began with the Noah Wyle-led trilogy of films before continuing with the 2014 TV series. Reflecting on ing this franchise, Morris its she initially thought it "was going to be daunting" given it's "such a massive world and a massive legacy," though through her time on the show she found it to be "the most rewarding project," thanks in part to there being "so much information to dive into" from showrunner Dean Devlin.

"You get scripts sometimes, and you begin projects, and you begin them at the beginning, and I feel like when we're beginning them, it's in the middle, and I'm so grateful to have such an encyclopedia of information about this show that I get to be in," Morris explained. "Dean is such an amazing showrunner, but he is a true encyclopedia. Getting to have him directing us, and he obviously writes, and he is on set with us in the first few episodes when we began."

Watching The Librarian movies in order is a good way to truly understand the made-for-TV historical fantasy series about an ancient secret society.

Morris went on to praise Devlin for the collaborative dynamic he fostered on set with all of his cast and crew, allowing them to "pick his brain, question and query", and rather than shooting them down with notes of "this is how it has to be, because that's how it's always been", he would instead meet them "with so much curiosity" regarding their ideas. "He was like, 'Yeah. Let's work this out. Let's work out how the show lives and how these characters respond'," Morris recalled. "So honestly, the thing I thought would be maybe the most scary has been the thing I've loved the most."

In addition to Devlin, The Librarians: The Next Chapter benefits from having the return of multiple stars from the original show, namely Stone, while others have yet to be officially revealed, though teased to us by Devlin. Morris recalls her and the new cast being "so chuffed" to have Kane on set with them, namely as it helped "any of our nerves or uncertainty [to wash away]", inviting them to "go and take" the torch, particularly since "The Library is still happening".

"Their Library didn't end for us to begin, but he was like, 'Take it and run'," Morris warmly recalled. "We were like, 'Oh.' It is one thing having Dean say that to us, but to have Christian say that, we all are so grateful to have it now in hindsight, because I think it really did give us permission to really take it and run, because I think you never want to take it too far away from the show."

The Next Chapter's Early Season 2 Renewal Left The Cast "Gobsmacked"

Upon making the jump from The CW to TNT, it was revealed that The Librarians: The Next Chapter had scored an early renewal for season 2, which is currently just over halfway filming. Reflecting on the initial announcement, Morris shared that she and her co-stars were "gobsmacked", having received a phone call from Devlin with all of them on FaceTime, who believed they were going to be asked to "do reshoots or something". Instead, they were all surprised as it had only been two weeks after filming concluded on season 1.

"We were all like, 'Dean, we just finished. What do you mean? We just finished 1'," Morris said with a laugh. "We were so over the moon, but it's been so lovely getting to film our show quietly in Serbia, with no one around, and no one knows about it, but it's just us."

Looking ahead to season 2, Morris is again cautious not to share too much information, as she's very excited for The Librarians: The Next Chapter season 1 "to be someone else's" after belonging to the cast and crew. She did, however, share her feeling that "season 2 is wonderful", and that it will be "really diving into these characters as a four", as well as "as individuals", and will see them exploring "what it really mens to be part of The Library".

More About The Librarians: The Next Chapter

Produced by Electric Entertainment, The Librarians: The Next Chapter centers on Vikram Chamberlain (Callum McGowan), a “Librarian” from the past who time traveled from 1847 and now finds himself stuck in the present. When Vikram returns to his castle in Belgrade, Serbia and discovers that it is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent.

With the help of a new team of eclectic heroes, including a savant in world history, a scientific genius, and a highly skilled Guardian, Vikram has only six months to clean up the mess he made. Throughout the season, the team will embark on fantastical adventures, including a surprise reroute to a manor where Agatha Christie-styled murders take place, a time-travel back to the days of King Arthur at Camelot and even an encounter with the first-ever vampire.
