The Mandalorian Cast & Characters Guide
The Mandalorian has created a long list of new Star Wars characters and brought back some familiar ones, with an incredible cast to match.
24 Chapter 19: The Convert
Season 3, Episode 3
While this is an absolutely spectacular episode of Star Wars TV, it misses the mark as an episode of The Mandalorian itself. The story of Doctor Penn Pershing and Elia Kane in the New Republic Amnesty Program feels like something meant for the canceled spin-off TV show, Rangers of the New Republic, that's been forced into the wrong place. Only its brilliant opening scene and meaningful closing scene tie this episode into the greater story of The Mandalorian season 3, unfortunately landing it at the bottom of the TV show's overall episodic ranking.
23 Chapter 22: Guns For Hire
Season 3, Episode 6
Loaded with celebrity cameos and references to the Clone Wars era, this episode has lots of fun - but perhaps too much fun. As the episode leading directly into the two-part finale detailing Mandalore's reclamation, "Chapter 22: Guns For Hire" is meant to have the job of preparing viewers for the journey ahead. While it does have some extraordinary commentary on Din Djarin's battle droid trauma, it fails to rise to the tonal expectations of the overall season, and its unsatisfactory Darksaber trade-off at the end of the episode solidifies its place as a lower-ranked episode.
22 Chapter 12: The Siege
Season 2, Episode 4
Din Djarin's and Grogu's return to Nevarro in The Mandalorian season 2 is by no means a bad episode, but its venture into the Imperial lab is simply more lackluster than the other adventures of the series. The revelation of Moff Gideon's survival, the evidence of cloning experiments, and the Razor Crest's exciting return to action are all serious highlights, but otherwise, this episode falls flat compared to the other episodes of its respective season - and the series as a whole. The episode also contains a clear set-up for Rangers of the New Republic, which now stands as a reminder of what will never be.
21 Chapter 5: The Gunslinger
Season 1, Episode 5
Similarly to "Chapter 12: The Siege," this episode of The Mandalorian season 1 is a lovely Star Wars adventure, but doesn't add much to the story of its respective season. The introductions of Peli Motto and Fennec Shand to the Star Wars galaxy as well as a return to Tatooine certainly make this episode somewhat of a standout, but otherwise, the story is a blur compared to the rest of its spectacular season. Its cliffhanger ending does at least pay off in The Mandalorian season 2, which has since helped the legacy of this episode greatly.
20 Chapter 17: The Apostate
Season 3, Episode 1
Din Djarin's and Grogu's return in The Mandalorian season 3 is, again, a fun adventure, but it's also full of several flaws. The season 3 premiere is forced to rehash information originally shared in the spin-off TV show The Book of Boba Fett, an attempt to fill in viewers who haven't watched the latter series that reveals what Din's seeking to accomplish this season. The reunion of Din and Grogu, however, goes unexplained, still causing confusion for many of the aforementioned viewers. As a season premiere, "Chapter 17: The Apostate" unfortunately falls flat, as exciting as its adventures truly are.
19 Chapter 20: The Foundling
Season 3, Episode 4
"Chapter 20: The Foundling" is a high-stakes rescue mission of a Mandalorian foundling with an incredible glimpse at Grogu's daunting Order 66 past, including the long-awaited reveal of his savior - Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best's glorious Star Wars return as Jedi Kelleran Beq. Despite this, the episode is one of the shortest of the entire series to date, making its adventures feel both compact and somewhat unsatisfactory. The importance of the stories helps its ranking, though a longer runtime would have certainly helped it climb higher up the list.
18 Chapter 10: The enger
Season 2, Episode 2
Din Djarin's very own "Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" is undoubtedly a fun and somewhat pitiful adventure, but certainly one of the weakest of The Mandalorian season 2's impressively brilliant run. The deepened bond between Din and Grogu is highlighted in this story, as is the Star Wars debut of Captain Carson Teva, both of which make this episode fairly notable. Still, it falls flat among the other episodes of its respective season, and doesn't do much to affect the overall story aside from the aforementioned reasons.
17 Chapter 4: Sanctuary
Season 1, Episode 4
The first of three back-to-back episodic adventures in The Mandalorian season 1, "Chapter 4: Sanctuary" is known for loyally following familiar Western tropes and perfectly adapting them to the Star Wars galaxy. This episode also sees the introduction of Cara Dune, along with Din Djarin's only clear romantic interest to date, Sorgan farmer Omera. While the episode is riveting and certainly a great Star Wars adventure, it's quite far removed from the overall story of its season, causing it to rank lower than other episodic juggernauts.
16 Chapter 21: The Pirate
Season 3, Episode 5
The action of The Mandalorian season 3 really begins to pick up in this episode, an adventure that sees Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze leading the Children of the Watch into battle against the pirates on Nevarro. Both the dogfights and the siege on the ground are absolutely riveting, and the brief live-action debut of Star Wars Rebels' Garazeb Orrelios is just a bonus in the grand scheme of this story. The episode, however, still suffers from just a few distractions, with the story focusing on Carson Teva for a while before finally returning to the titular Mandalorian and his covert.
15 Chapter 6: The Prisoner
Season 1, Episode 6
This episode finishes off The Mandalorian season 1's mid-season run of episodic adventures in a story that's both rooted in much of Din Djarin's mysterious backstory and more gritty in tone compared to the rest of the season. The gang Mando infiltrates the New Republic prison ship with is composed of many notable stars and actors, from Bill Burr to Natalia Tena - and even Star Wars: The Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker voice actor Matt Lanter gets a chance to shine as Lieutenant Davan. Despite these performances, this episode is again quite far removed from its season, though the impact of this episode on the future of the show helps it to rank slightly higher.
