The The Mummy. The latest in a line that has included new Dracula, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and Frankenstein miniseries, Skybound’s latest monster title focuses on Prince Imhotep, taking a look at the famous story from an entirely new perspective.
the original 1932 film, this time told from the perspective of Helen Grosvenor.
Played by Zita Johann in The Mummy, Grosvenor was a British/Egyptian woman who found herself embroiled in a centuries-old love story, as the revived Prince Imhotep became convinced she was the reincarnation of his lost love, Anck-es-en-Amon. The decision to retell the story from her perspective is an exciting one, making this perhaps the most anticipated Skybound Universal Monsters reboot yet.

With their new line of Universal Monsters comics, Skybound has found inventive new takes on classic characters and stories. James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! – by authors Dan Watters and Ram V., and artist Matthew Roberts – took place a few years after the original film, focusing on a journalist on the trail of a serial killer in the Amazon, which eventually brought her into with the eponymous creature.
Author/artist Faith Erin Hicks looks to be an excellent choice for Skybound’s Mummy comic, which will hopefully continue the publisher's trend of taking unexpectedly satisfying new approaches to classic material
Skybound continued their Universal Monsters series with Frankenstein, by writer/artist Michael Walsh, which was perhaps the most unique entry in the line yet, with each issue of the miniseries telling a story behind the different body parts that make up the Monster. Judging from the preview, author/artist Faith Erin Hicks looks to be an excellent choice for Skybound’s Mummy comic, which will hopefully continue the publisher's trend of taking unexpectedly satisfying new approaches to classic material, as Skybound's Universal Monsters-verse continues to grow.
"The Mummy" Continues Skybound Entertainment's Successful Resurrection Of The Universal Monsters In Comic Book Form
The Publisher Has Just Scratched The Surface Of Classic Horror
As long as they continue hiring interesting creators, Skybound’s line of Universal Monsters comics remains a treat for classic horror fans. There are still so many iconic characters to go, whether it’s the Wolf Man, the Bride of Frankenstein, the Invisible Man and much, much more. With any luck, Skybound will also get to tell their own “monster mash” stories, like the original House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula, bringing all the classic monsters together into one story. Until then, Universal Monsters fans still have much to look forward to with the release of Faith Erin Hicks’ The Mummy.

Universal Monsters
Universal Monsters is a franchise from Universal Studios that began in 1923 with The Hunchback of Notre Dame. While many characters are based on novels released prior to the films, actors such as Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney, and Claude Rains helped the classic monsters become instantly recognizable. Movies like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, and The Wolf Man may be some of the most critically acclaimed films in the franchise, but Universal has kept the characters popular in recent years through films such as Renfield in 2023 and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!.
