The OA star Brandon Perea gives a hopeful update regarding a renewal for the canceled Netflix mystery drama. Created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, The OA follows Prairie Johnson, a young blind woman who reappears with her sight restored after mysteriously disappearing for 7 years. Marling stars as Prairie, and she is ed by Emory Cohen, Brendan Meyer, Phyllis Smith and Brandon Perea. After two successful seasons, The OA garnered hugely positive reviews and a large fanbase, but Netflix decided to cancel the show.

Now, roughly 5 years since The OA season 2 aired on Netflix, Brandon Perea, who recently starred in Lee Isaac Chung’s disaster film Twisters, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, stating that he has a feeling The OA is not over and there’s a way to continue the story. He adds that co-creator Zal Batmanglij is confident the show will get revived and this fills him with some confidence as well. Read his full quote below:

I’m one of those people that has a feeling it’s not over. I think they have a way to continue the story, which I have no idea about, but I’m down and I’m willing to be a part of The OA whenever it’s time to come back around. I leave my door open with it, too. It just feels like there are some chapters that we’ve got to close that aren’t closed yet. We have this weird feeling, and Zal is very hopeful. He’s not even hopeful; he just seems very sure of himself. So that gives me assurance as well where I’m like, “You know what? I feel like we will [finish].” So I carry that same hope, and I’m not surprised by it at all. Those two are warriors, man.

What Are The Chances Of The OA Getting Revived?

Season 2 ended on a massive cliffhanger

The show was a hit among critics as its 2 seasons boasted a 78% and 92% approval rating respectively. They began a social media campaign to save The OA and even raised money to put up a billboard in Times Square in hopes of saving the show.

Netflix has created some truly captivating original series over the years only to cancel them soon after, leading to some frustrating abrupt endings.

The fans' efforts, however, didn’t convince Netflix to bring back the show, as the CEO, Reed Hastings, explained in an interview months after The OA’s cancelation that the streamer pulled the plug because they were looking to balance costs against viewership. Batmanglij revealed a few years after the show got canceled that Netflix offered to conclude The OA season 2's story with a film, but they declined because they were more interested in wrapping up the show with a full season rather than a movie.

There have been numerous shows in the past that have gotten canceled and revived even after many years and The OA could possibly that list.

The decision to turn down Netflix’s offer indicates that Batmanglij and Marling are still very interested in developing at least one more full season of The OA to conclude the show’s riveting story. There have been numerous shows in the past that have gotten canceled and revived even after many years and The OA could possibly that list. The show still retains its dedicated fanbase and the recent success of the co-creators' A Murder at the End of the World, could help reignite interest in The OA from a new production company.
