Michael Scott was the main character on The Office for the first seven seasons. While he might have been the protagonist, he was also really obnoxious. Michael is a rather over the top character, but his personality and the fact he was both funny and cringe-worthy helped make the show what it was.
Whether you’re a fan of Michael Scott or not, there’s no denying that he could be annoying at times. However, in a series filled with big personalities and outlandish characters, he wasn’t the only one. There were also many characters that were even more obnoxious than he was.
Jan Levinson
When the series begins, Jan seems like a relatively normal person who is unfortunately tasked with being Michael Scott’s boss. However, as the series goes on, she devolves. She becomes much more unstable than Micahel, and he is a much better partner to her than she is to him in many ways.
While Jan didn’t start out being obnoxious, the way she became really selfish, unstable, and dramatic made her annoying to watch as the seasons went on.
Ryan Howard
Ryan Howard is another character who starts out more as a foil to some of the more ridiculous characters. However, he doesn’t maintain his more reasonable stance for long. After he gets the job at corporate, Ryan becomes more and more narcissistic and vain.
Then, after losing the job, he becomes really incompetent and useless, yet he still thinks he’s smarter than everyone else. Ryan’s stuck-up attitude despite being a rather useless business person made him annoying to watch. He also was just a bad person overall.
Clark Duke
Clark Duke is a character that didn’t the show until after Michael left, but he wasn’t a good addition. After season seven, these series struggled to introduce interesting new characters that fans got attached to.
Clark was a little bit of a Dwight archetype, but he isn't interesting enough or unique enough to stand out. The fact that he was a little bit of a creep who tried to take advantage of Erin also made him annoying to watch. The show would have been better off without him in many ways.
Erin Hannon
Erin might have ed the cast of characters in the middle of the show’s run, but they never seemed to know quite what to do with her. She was extremely naive to the point of it being ridiculous to watch at times. She had multiple different workplace boyfriends, but they never seemed to be a good match for her.
Overall, Erin was just an obnoxious character because she was so hard to relate to and the show was all over the place with her character arc.
Nellie Bertram
Nellie Bertram is another character that ed the show in the last couple of seasons. After Michael’s departure, trying to find another authority figure to fill his shoes was a difficult task. Nellie just never really integrated well into the show.
It seemed like The Office didn't know if they wanted her to be obnoxious or likable, so it was hard to understand her personality. She wasn't charismatic enough or outlandish enough, so this made her annoying to see on screen.
Gabe Lewis
Gabe Lewis was a character that Micahel never got along with. As a member of Sabre’s corporate office, Michael, of course, didn’t respond well to him. However, since Michael already had similar storylines with Toby and Charles Miner, this felt a bit boring.
Gabe was definitely a weird guy that most people didn’t like. While he might have provided some funny moments, he wasn’t as interesting as some of the other characters. He was an obnoxious person who thought he was way more unique than he was, so it’s no wonder his co-workers thought he was annoying.
Kevin Malone
Many of the characters on the show were rather inappropriate at work. Micahel was often made inappropriate jokes or sent inappropriate joke emails.
However, he was not nearly as obnoxious in this regard as Kevin was. Kevin was always making sexual jokes to everyone around him, and these jokes often crossed the line. He also was clearly incompetent at his job and not even capable of doing basic math. Overall, Kevin was just an obnoxious person.
Deangelo Vickers
Deangelo Vickers was one of the bosses of Dunder Mifflin after Michael left. Somehow, he made Michale look like a likable and normal person. Deangelo was really sexist, pathetic, and incapable as a boss. He was way worse than Micahel, and it was hard to watch him. He wasn’t really funny at all despite being played by Will Ferrell, and his character was a big miss on the series. He was overall just super annoying, but luckily his character wasn’t on the show for long.
Dwight Schrute
Dwight Schrute is another of the core characters from the series, and he has one of the most ridiculous personalities of anyone on the show. The Office really wouldn’t have been successful without Dwight, but he's annoying personality could sur Michael’s at times.
However, the fact that he was weird, eccentric, and intense made his character so unique and compelling to watch. While he wasn’t exactly likable, he was definitely engaging as a character and unlike any others on the series.
Andy Bernard
Andy Bernard was another annoying character, but he was different than Michael as well as Dwight. Andy was a people pleaser who was privileged and attention-seeking. He was obnoxious at times with all of his singing to himself and dreams of being a famous entertainer. Andy started out as an obnoxious character and became, even more, that way as he seems to lose touch with reality.
