Michael Scott became an iconic character on The Office that specialized in making the audience uncomfortable. The rivalry between Michael and Toby was among the most entertaining relationships in the series. Michael hated the human resources representative for trying to censor his jokes and make the office a more workplace friendly environment.

The short-lived absence of Toby’s retirement moving to Costa Rica would end when he returned to the branch. Michael is livid at his enemy coming back and tries to frame him for having marijuana in his desk. Unfortunately for Michael, he is tricked into thinking a salad is pot when purchasing it to frame Toby.

Defending Todd Packer

Todd Packer might very well be the most hated character in the entire run of The Office. All the actions from Packer showcase a horrible person that has zero care or interest in the feelings of others. Michael goes out of his way to defend Packer since the two have a toxic friendship in the early seasons.

Various of the office call out Michael for allowing Packer to insult others with offensive comments. Michael eventually tells off Packer later in the series when Holly steps in, but the years of defending the jerk ranks high as a shameless act.

Running over Meredith with car

Michael running over Meredith with his car was an accident that he clearly did feel bad about. However, the way Michael handles the terrible incident and the rest of the office shaming him makes it an even worse moment in the character’s overall history.

A terrible decision would see Michael force the rest of the employees to take part in a fun run for the charity of rabies prevention. The entire process of Michael shows how delusional and self-obsessed he could be to try to ease his own mind before truly doing something to help Meredith.

Kidnaps teenage pizza delivery person

Michael deals with the pizza delivery guy on The Office.

Michael is livid about not getting invited to the launch party of Ryan’s new project for the company. The secondary plans of ordering pizza and watching it from the Scranton branch shows just how petty Michael could get when things aren’t going his way.

Upon finding the teenager delivering the pizzas disrespectful, Michael locks him in the break room against his will seemingly kidnapping a literal kid. The rest of the office eventually talks him out of it, but the action showed just how shameful he could get in bad moods.

Taking control of Phyllis' wedding

 

The wedding of Phyllis and Bob Vance showcased the unity of one of the only couples that truly loved each other on the show. Michael tries to hijack the wedding by making it all about himself despite not being that close to either member of the happy couple.

Phyllis is forced to deal with Michael’s antics during what should have been the happiest day of her life. Michael was tasked with wheeling her dad down the aisle in his wheelchair, but he gets livid when the father is able to walk on his own showing his ultimate selfishness.

Diversity day training

Michael’s controversial quoting of a Chris Rock stand-up special inspires the corporate section of the company to send sensitivity training to his branch. The representative tries to make Michael change his ways of saying disrespectful jokes offending others in the office.

As expected, the petulant nature of Michael sees him avoid learning the lesson and forces everyone to take a diversity training course forcing employees to depict racial and religious stereotypes. It ends with Kelly slapping Michael in the face for delivering an offensive Indian impression.

Wanted birthday attention during Kevin's stressful wait

The timing of Kevin waiting to hear back from the results to see if he has skin cancer upsets Michael since it falls on his birthday. Michael’s selfish and needy personality demands all attention on his birthday, but everyone in the office rightfully is concerned about Kevin.

An awkward moment sees Michael taking everyone to the ice rink pretending to care about Kevin’s wait when he really wanted to show off his ice-skating skills. Kevin thankfully finds out he does not have cancer, but Michael added more stress to his day.

Forcing Oscar to kiss him

Oscar is forced to come out as gay to the rest of the office after Michael finds out. Upon realizing that his jokes can cross the line as homophobic, Michael learns the lesson in the worst way possible. Oscar’s complaints were taken to the next level when Michael tried to show .

The scene featured Michael essentially forcing Oscar to kiss him in front of everyone to prove that Michael is not homophobic. Oscar gets a paid vacation with the time off as a result of Michael once again crossing the line with a shameless manner.

Dumped Pam's mom for her age

Michael entering a relationship with Pam’s mom was one of the strangest yet hilarious storylines of the later seasons when they meet at Pam and Jim’s wedding. Pam finally accepts the relationship upon believing Michael has true feelings for Helene.

Unfortunately, all of her worst fears come true when Michael realizes Helene’s age on her birthday. Helene turns out to be four years older than Michael assumed (58 instead of 54) and it culminated in him ending the relationship. It is a testament to the writing staff of The Office that they somehow convinced us to root for Michael at the end of the series.

Backed out of Scott's Tots promise

Michael made a horrible promise earlier in his career when visiting a school with lower-income students. The promise to pay for their college tuitions if they graduated finally would come up all these years later when visiting “Scott’s Tots” in their senior year of high school.

Michaels’ finances are even worse than when he originally made the promise with no realistic way to follow through. The reveal gives us one of the most awkward moments in television history. Michael does offer to pay for laptop batteries for the class along with one student’s college textbooks.
