The Originals' Mikaelsons are due to make an appearance before season 4 is over. With the Mikaelson mantra of "always and forever," there's a grand lesson about familial love.
This original vampire family is known for its strong family bond, and it's known for having claim to some truly transcendent romantic love too. Love has been relished, subjected to danger, and sometimes lost on The Originals. No relationship has escaped without suffering misfortune at least once.
Hayley & Klaus
Granted Hayley and Klaus weren't ever officially a couple, they did forge a partnership centered on family and commitment to their child. Throughout the first season, viewers saw the two tackle their differences to work together, and it seemed that the pregnancy from their spicy one-night affair might bring them together.
The worst thing to happen to them is also the best thing - Elijah. Klaus' closest bond is with Elijah, and Elijah becomes the biggest love in Hayley's life. The undeniable feelings that developed between the latter permanently dash any chances of a Klayley matching, but they ultimately reinforce family ties with Hayley becoming a Mikaelson in more ways than one.
Elijah & Antoinette
Elijah met Antoinette later in the series while starting a new life for himself in . A friendship builds that quickly turns into a romance. They are seemingly happy together enjoying freedom from any and all concerns outside of themselves.
That happiness doesn't last as external forces come into play. Elijah gets unwittingly pulled into the shady dealings of Antoinette's family, which serve as a death knell to their relationship. Elijah regains his memories in an Originals plot twist within a plot twist, leaving no place left in his life for Antoinette to fit into.
Vincent & Eva
Vincent was one of the most powerful witches in the New Orleans supernatural scene. Part of that power was honed during his earlier marriage to Eva Sinclair. They were a happy couple with a harmonious home life and were initially blissful when Eva became pregnant.
The pregnancy - or rather Vincent's reaction to it - became their undoing. Knowing that life could be dangerous for his unborn child, he set out to become more powerful to protect his family and in the process released an evil entity. Eva became more infatuated with it as Vincent tried to rid himself of it, and the two wound up on opposing sides as a result.
Hayley & Jackson
Both Hayley and Jackson were born as of Louisiana werewolf royalty, which led to their betrothal as babies. After learning of this on her return to her hometown, she resisted because her heart wasn't in it. She ultimately decided to marry him in the best interest of the packs and in hopes of happiness too.
Unfortunately, the Strix resurfaced and became Jackon's demise. He was killed in front of Hayley. While their marriage may not have been perfect because of her lingering feelings for Elijah, Hayley's heartbreak was complete in Jackson's death.
Josh & Aiden
Josh was probably the most lovable of all the characters on the show so it was a jubilant turn when he found love with Aiden. Their relationship proved that werewolves and vampires could get along and that healthy romantic relationships were also possible.
Aiden was killed by Dahlia in the course of her plans to steal Hope, leaving Josh grief-stricken. In the latter half of the final season of The Originals Josh is also killed, and the two sweethearts are seen reuniting with each other in the afterlife.
Freya & Keelin
Keelin is only around for the last two seasons, but that's more than enough time for her to come into the lives of the Mikaelson family and enter into a relationship with Freya. In each other, they found a source of their own happiness instead of just serving the interests of others, though they definitely had a questionable start together.
It could be said that Keelin is the best thing to happen to Freya while Freya is the worse thing to happen to Keelin. Keelin was held captive by the Freya for her werewolf venom initially before the two started working together and sparks flew. From there nothing could keep the two apart. Freya, arguably the superior Mikaelson sister, even married Keelin.
Kol & Davina
Kol and Davina are another unlikely but totally cute couple. It would seemingly make no sense that Davina fell for Kol since she hated the Mikaelsons, but they were drawn together like magnets in large part due to their love of witchcraft.
It is the instance of Kol being resurrected back in vampire form that leads to a series of events keeping the lovers in peril and unable to be fully reunited. At many points, it seems that there is no hope of the two getting their happily ever after. Luckily their connection to The Hollow is broken, and the pair, arguably two of The Original's best characters, leave town.
Rebekah & Marcel
Love kindled between these two a long time ago and remained simmering for over a century despite other lovers that came and went. Rebekah and Marcel kept coming back together even for brief reunions because they couldn't deny the connection they shared. Marcel was undoubtedly Rebekah's best relationship.
Klaus was repeatedly the most awful thing to happen to them. It started off with Klaus forbidding the two from being together outright to him finding reason after reason why their romance didn't fit into his plans. Klaus came around eventually, The Hollow was defeated, and they got married.
Klaus & Camille
Camille seemed too good for Klaus from the beginning, and that's also the reason that fans kept waiting for them to give in to the romance that clearly hung in the air. Camille was one of the primary reasons that Klaus became a better person.
When they finally gave in, that proved to be their undoing, or more specifically Aurora's compelling did. Camille became a vampire as a result, and things were never the same between the two. The two didn't reconcile until Camille was on her deathbed from Lucien's fatal bite.
Elijah & Hayley
Elijah and Hayley had what is arguably the most steamy romance out of any couple on The Originals. Their love kept simmering even when they were separated by events both in and out of their control... almost.
At one point, to keep The Hollow at bay Elijah chose to give up his memories, which had disastrous results, including for his relationship with Hayley. He forgot everything including their love and got pulled into the schemes of Antoinette's family, which proved fatal for Hayley. His grief over her was boundless when his memories were recovered.
