The first major decision players have to make in The Outer Worlds is whether to redirect power to the town of Edgewater or the Deserters at the Botanical Lab. Your ship requires a new Power Regulator to get offworld and your only option is to take it from one of the factions. As part of Comes Now The Power, you have the opportunity to decide which faction loses out.

Players have several options for resolving this dispute, although your chosen Outer Worlds character build also plays a role. Dialog skills can be useful for convincing certain individuals, making certain paths easier. You can divert power to Edgewater or to the Botanical Lab, but taking extra steps leads to a slightly better ending overall.

The Outer Worlds is an RPG built on player choice and consequences, but there's no way to officially beat the game without scoring some kills.

Redirecting power to the Botanical Lab dooms Edgewater. On returning to Edgewater's Saltuna Cannery, players will be confronted by Reed Tobson. Reed threatens to have his guards kill the player if they attempt to take the Power Regulator from the Cannery. However, with Intimidate 30, he can be convinced to order them to stand down.

Choosing to fight leads to Reed's death, automatically failing all remaining quests in Edgewater. However, players can also loot a keycard for a room filled with useful items.

Choosing the Botanical Lab is the quickest resolution to this quest and suits a character who intends to fight back against the corporations, regardless of the consequences. However, fan-favorite companion Parvati may leave your party permanently if Reed is killed. ing a Determination/Lie 10 check convinces her to stay.

Faction Influence Decreases

  • The Deserters
  • The Board (slight decrease if Adelaide replaces Reed)

Redirecting power to Edgewater dooms the Deserters. On returning to the Botanical Lab, players can speak to Adelaide McDevitt, and can convince Thomas and Grace to return to Edgewater if their side quests were completed.

However, Adelaide will not return unless Reed is removed from power. Dealing with Reed is optional; your can convince him to leave or murder him, putting Adelaide in charge of Edgewater, or simply leave Adelaide where she is.

To convince Reed to leave Edgewater, simply talk to him. With a Persuade 10, Reed can be convinced that Adelaide has found a way to grow food, but won't fully believe this without evidence. You can either a Lie 20 check or tell Reed the truth about Adelaide using corpses in her fertilizer. Either option leads to Reed stepping down and allowing Adelaide and her people to return to Edgewater.

Convincing Reed is only an option if you speak to him straight away after speaking to Adelaide. Convincing Thomas and Grace to return locks players out of this path.

Alternatively, you can simply kill Reed to loot his room, but Parvati may try and leave your party.

Should You Choose Edgewater Or The Deserters In The Outer Worlds?

The quest allows you to act as an anti-corporate revolutionary, a vicious corporate shill, or anything in between. The most balanced outcome is to divert power to Edgewater, so it can thrive under Reed or Adelaide's leadership.

Unlocking the Mightier Than The Sword achievement for saving Edgewater permanently requires diverting power to Edgewater, convincing the Deserters to return and leaving Reed in charge.

However, The Outer Worlds is all about player choice and you'll find it's filled with these sorts of enjoyable moral dilemmas. No matter what path is chosen, you're in for a fun adventure.
