The Batman director Matt Reeves confirms talks about Matt Reeves' other possible The Batman spinoffs, which could expand the franchise outside of Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight.
In an interview for Variety with Catwoman actor Zoë Kravitz, The Batman director Matt Reeves reveals that he's discussing early plans for The Penguin season 2 with showrunner Lauren LeFranc. Although The Penguin was conceived as a one-season miniseries, its overwhelmingly positive reception warrants another story starring Colin Farrell's Oz Cobb. Read Reeves' comments below:
"Yeah, we’re talking to [showrunner] Lauren [LeFranc] about doing another season. That was a special experience. I just feel really fortunate. These characters don’t belong to me; they belong to the world. It comes down to whether you can approach them in a way that expresses something personal."
What The Penguin Season 2 Update Means
The Penguin Season 1 Exceeded All Expectations
While The Penguin would inevitably set up more than one storyline for The Batman - Part II, the series intended to tell a standalone story centered around Colin Farrell's Oz Cobb, Cristin Millioti's Sofia Falcone, Rhenzy Feliz's Victor Aguilar, and the rest of The Penguin's star-studded cast. However, The Penguin was so well received by critics and audiences that Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. may not want to miss their chance to replicate its success with a second season.
Our Take On The Penguin Season 2 Update
The Penguin Season 2 Could Give The Batman Movies More Room To Delve Deeper Into Gotham
The Penguin season 2 certainly can delve deeper into Oz Cobb's twisted psyche and his rise to power, as teased by The Penguin episode 8's ending, where Oz starts working with Gotham's dirty politicians. The Penguin season 2 could also show The Batman - Part II's aftermath from Oz's perspective and introduce a new antagonist that tests Oz's ideals. After The Penguin removed everything that kept Oz from becoming a full-blown villain, The Penguin season 2 could remind him why Francis and Victor Aguilar used to keep his villainous impulses in check.

Sorry, But The Final Shot Of The Penguin Doesn’t Mean What You Think It Does
The final shot of The Penguin may have sparked the wrong idea about The Batman's whereabouts throughout the tumultuous events of the show.
If Matt Reeves and Lauren LeFranc move ahead with The Penguin season 2, it's possible that The Batman - Part II and The Batman - Part III will have more time to explore Robert Pattinson's Batman and his next antagonist, as The Batman - Part II may currently devote a significant part of its runtime to Oz Cobb's story after the events of The Penguin season 1. Eventually, Matt Reeves' The Batman franchise could be a Penguin story as much as it is a Batman story.
