Has The Ultimatum Found Success Among Reality Dating Shows?
Though it’s had fewer seasons, many have found themselves wrapped up in the storylines of The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On and The Ultimatum: Queer Love in the past. As with most reality dating shows, the measure of success comes from how many couples are able to leave the series happy in their relationship. While The Ultimatum franchise is a little different in the way they present love on the show, it’s clear that their measure of success would be the same. With six couples coming into the experiment in relationships, the number who have come out is vastly different.
Throughout the run of The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On, eight of the eleven couples who came onto the show have either gotten engaged or married after their experience. Meanwhile, on The Ultimatum: Queer Love season 1, things were a bit different. While four of the five original couples featured on the series left the show engaged, only one, Sam Mark and Aussie Chau, remain engaged. So, while The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On has an incredibly high success rate, The Ultimatum: Queer Love is vastly lower. Overall, the shows average out to roughly 55% success for their pre-existing relationships.
With The Ultimatum franchise returning to Netflix, the couples involved in the seasons of the series will have to make some incredibly difficult decisions. Though there have been successful pairs created by the trial marriages in the past, the focus is typically on the pre-existing couples and what will happen in their future. For some, the show will put their relationship to the ultimate test and provide clarity on their relationship. The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On and The Ultimatum: Queer Love can push a relationship forward, for better or worse.
