Fans of the supernatural teen series, developing fan-favorite romances, with some going the distance while others, unfortunately, didn't.
However, the family relationships were just as memorable. From the complicated brother relationship between Stefan and Damon Salvatore to the fierce Bennett women, these and many other familial dynamics were, at times, the root of the series. Because there were so many family relationships that were extremely important to the show, a few stick out more than others. But which relationships were the best?
Matt & Vicky Donovan
Matt and Vicky were introduced in season 1 of The Vampire Diaries. Matt was the seemingly wiser sibling, constantly watching out for Vicky, as she was known to rebel and get into trouble. However, despite everything they went through, these two were always there for each other because they only had one another.
They were always in the crossfire of whatever villain wreaked havoc on Mystic Falls. They are one of many sibling duos that stick out from the series because they had many emotional moments and an unfortunate ending.
Liv & Luke Parker
These memorable Gemini twins were introduced in season 5 and played important roles in the series. They were realistic about their lives as witches and went out of their way to help the rest of the main characters when they were in trouble. They also had their own side storylines that had a lot of potential.
Many would agree that they were one of the best sibling duos in the series because they really had each other's back and ed one another. They were both willing to die for the other and do what was best for their coven.
Anna & Pearl
Although Anna and Pearl appear to have their own motives with the characters of Mystic Falls, their love for one another was irable. Pearl had main character energy as a side character. She close with Katherine and cared for her. However, both Pearl and Anna had their own agenda at the end as they eventually wanted to make good lives for themselves in Mystic Falls.
There aren't many positive parent-child relationships in the series, but these two were memorable. Pearl looked out for Anna and wanted her daughter to not get involved with people she didn't trust. She might have been right about that one.
Nadia & Katherine
Nadia and Katherine were another unforgettable mother-daughter duo. They were unconventional but somehow likable. Nadia truly wanted the best for her mother and wanted to explore the relationship they missed out on. She trusted her mother and Katherine eventually let her guard down with Nadia.
They had their ups and downs but that was mostly on Katherine's part and her ability to stay stubborn. However, their bond was very strong and lasted until Katherine died.
Alaric & The Twins
Alaric was one of the best father figures, especially for Jeremy and Elena, so it was no surprise that he'd be that way for the twins too. Although the two sisters in the series were only children, they had a lot of impactful moments (especially with their father).
For many viewers, they believed that they were a sweet and genuine family. Josie and Lizzie were very protective of their father and fans know just how much Alaric wanted his girls to steer clear of the chaos that followed supernatural beings.
The Mikaelsons
The Original family were very well known and had important roles in the series. They each had their own full arcs on the series and whether fans loved or hated them, there was no hiding that they made their mark on the series.
Klaus, Elijah, and Rebecca had complicated relationships with one an other but they knew what mattered most: family. Their upbringing alone makes a lot of sense to their relationships as to why they were the way they were. However, they followed each other to New Orleans and continued to explore what was to happen for their characters.
Caroline & Liz Forbes
In season 1, Liz and Caroline were constantly butting heads. However, as the series goes on, their relationship becomes very unforgettable and heartfelt. They definitely had the most important mother-daughter relationship in The Vampire Diaries. They had a few complications, especially when it came to Caroline being a vampire, but no matter what, Liz was there for her daughter and learned to be ive.
Their relationship was genuine and important for Caroline's character. It impacted the way she thought about herself and eventually triggered turning her humanity off while also, putting her emotions back on.
Bonnie & Sheila Bennett
Fans know just how important Grams was to Bonnie. She was the only one who was willing to help her be the witch she was destined to be. She made her stronger when she felt helpless and their bond was overall one of the most special relationships.
Each obstacle Bonnie found herself in, went back to her and Grams. She was the one that could bring her back to her strength. Because Grams was such an important mother figure for Bonnie, it made that much more difficult when fans realized the reality of Grams being on the other side. That was one of the worst things that happened to Bonnie on The Vampire Diaries.
Stefan & Damon Salvatore
Stefan and Damon's relationship is the root of the series. Despite having many fights, there's no doubt that the Salvatore brothers cared so deeply for each other and would do whatever it took to keep one another safe.
It is no secret either that Stefan and Damon had one of the most complex relationships but that's what made their best brotherly moments on TVD even more memorable. It might have taken them a while to get to a healthy place, but it was worth it in the long run.
Elena & Jeremy Gilbert
Elena and Jeremy were all each other had for a long period of time. They both faced tragedy when their parents died but they found their way. Their relationship was like any other brother-sister relationship however, their circumstances led to many emotional tribulations.
Their relationships are one of the best because they were more than just brother and sister, they were best friends. They always looked out for one another and when something went wrong, they were the link to getting their lives together.
