Bonnie's character development is incredible, and she refuses to let everyone push her around. However, she still wasn't treated well for the majority of the series. Because Bonnie takes a backseat to the other characters, there's a lot about her that some fans might not know.

She's The Last Surviving Bennett Witch

Because she appeared so briefly, it's easy to forget that Bonnie had a distant cousin who had once teamed up with Katherine. After Sheila died and Bonnie's mom became a vampire, Lucy was the only known Bennett witch other than Bonnie.

However, it's confirmed in The Vampire Diaries Season 8 that Lucy was killed when she appeared as a ghost to help Bonnie in the series finale. It's likely that Lucy was supposed to appear more often than she did, as she told Bonnie she'd see her again soon in the second season.

She Had A Romance With Damon In The Books

Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham as Damon and Bonnie in The Vampire Diaries

There are several book to show differences no one talks about in The Vampire Diaries, and Bonnie and Damon's romance is one of them. Damon did fall for Elena in the book series, but he also found himself drawn to her best friend.

Bonnie is nothing like her book version so their dynamic is different in each adaption. However, there's a spark between them in both, and L.J. Smith wrote a series of fanfictions indicating they were supposed to end up together before she was fired by the publishing company.

She Was A Cheerleader

After the first few episodes of the series, Bonnie was never again seen with the cheer squad. She changed a lot during the first season, and given everything that she was dealing with, it's unlikely that she would've been concerned with going to practice.

Bonnie only ever seems to participate in extracurricular activities for Caroline's sake, but it appeared as though she genuinely enjoyed being a cheerleader before she had bigger things, such as saving her friends and all of Mystic Falls from danger, to worry about.

She's Been 4 Different Supernatural Beings

At the beginning of the show, vampires were an anomaly to Elena and her friends. But the pool of supernatural creatures in Mystic Falls began to grow larger, and soon nothing seemed impossible. Bonnie wasn't just a witch, and her supernatural status changed throughout the series.

She was a ghost seen only by Jeremy, the anchor to the Other Side, and became a Huntress after Rayna Cruz transferred her magic. There was also a time when Bonnie's powers were stolen, making her a human in the technical sense.

Bonnie Is An Aquarius

Fans can check and see which The Vampire Diaries character they are based on their zodiac sign, and Bonnie is an Aquarius through and through. She was born on February 5th, 1993, but her personality matches up with that of an Aquarius as well.

Bonnie is direct and never hesitates to get straight to the point. She's so devoted to her friends and family that she would gladly give her life for them. Bonnie refuses to go against her morals and doesn't let people push her around.

She Died Twice

Bonnie Bennett gets hurt in The Vampire Diaries.

Bonnie's had a lot of close calls, but she's technically died only twice in the show. While it sounds like a lot, the characters die so often that it's no longer abnormal. In fact, almost all of the main characters have died and come back at least once.

Bonnie lets herself be killed to catch Klaus off guard, but she cast a protection spell beforehand that resurrects her. She also died from overexerting herself while practicing magic and was only able to come back as the anchor to the Other Side. Bonnie was thought to have died a third time, but she was actually stuck in the prison world with Damon.

She's In 136 Episodes Of The Show

Given that The Vampire Diaries has 171 episodes, Bonnie missed out on some serious screentime. It's not super noticeable because she's never gone for too long, but 35 episodes is still a lot for a main character who's in every season to be absent for.

She's missed out on over 20% of the series, while Caroline has been in 150 episode of The Vampire Diaries as well as five episodes of The Originals. Bonnie is crucial to the show, so it's shocking her friends were able to survive without her during those installments.

She's Practiced Four Different Types Of Magic

There are several different types of magic, and Bonnie has pretty much mastered them all by the time The Vampire Diaries comes to an end. While she most often uses Traditional Magic, she has also practiced Dark Magic, Spirit Magic, and Expression.

However, Dark Magic comes with a price, and things usually don't go well for Bonnie when she uses it. After she brought Jeremy back from the dead, he was able to see the ghosts of his past girlfriends, which caused them to break up.
