The Vampire Diaries has been a Netflix favorite for a while, but the The Vampire Diaries had consistently good seasons, but some plots in the show promised a lot of action, but fell flat eventually.

These anti-climactic plot lines involved doppelgängers, potential romantic couples, and villains who just lacked the flair that the true baddies of TVD did. There could have been a lot more to these plots in the show, or they could have been done away with completely.

The Silas, Amara, & Qetsiyah Love Triangle

Silas and Amara in The Vampire Diaries

In this ancient TVD love triangle, two people were immortals, and one was the most powerful witch ever. Yet, Silas was all bark and no bite, Amara was a weak husk of a human, and Qetsiyah wasted her powers on a love story that she no longer was a part of.

The three of them could have wreaked a lot more havoc with each other and with the Mystic Falls gang, but Amara and Qetsiyah decided to kill themselves, while Silas was sent away with the Other Side. Their whole story seemed like an unnecessary side plot when it could have been a lot more.

Connor And The Five

An image of Connor being kept hostage and a vampire Elena in The Vampire Diaries

When Connor was introduced to audiences, he was sharp as a pin and extremely resilient — a threat to Original Vampires. The lore of the Brotherhood of the Five promised real foes to the vampires who could unsettle them greatly, but it wasn't meant to be.

They were just a plot device to find the map to the cure, and the formidable Five were brought down way too easily. Elena was a newbie vampire who wasn't even very strong, but she managed to kill a Hunter and that made it one of the most hated storylines on The Vampire Diaries.

The Travelers

Markos, the leader of the Travelers, in The Vampire Diaries

The story of the witch subsect of Travelers was enmeshed with Silas, Amara, and Qetsiyah's story, but it just became long and arduous after the deaths of those three.

Markos and his fellow Travelers were just not as intimidating as they should have been, and the only difference they made was putting the Magic Purification spell on the town. There were times when the villains outsmarted the gang, but the Travelers were too easy to kill, making them underwhelming.

The Armory And Enzo's family

Enzo with Sybil in The Vampire Diaries

Even if diehard fans of the franchise were asked what the point of The Armory was, they wouldn't have a clear answer. It is unclear why this secret organization was ever introduced to The Vampire Diaries because they had little importance in the grand scheme of things.

They collected magical objects but with no clear agenda. The fact that it was founded by Enzo's ancestors was an unnecessary connection to make, and apart from unleashing the Sirens from its vault, The Armory was completely nonsensical.

The Caroline And Klaus Buildup

There is no doubt that Caroline and Klaus were one of the best ships on the show, but their unresolved love story was disappointing and left much to be desired. The Originals moved onto their own show, thus abandoning the exciting romance bubbling between Klaus and Caroline.

Fans wish that they could have been given a satisfying ending of some sort, since Klaus had so proudly claimed that he would be Caroline's "last love." Instead, they got ambiguity and confusion.

Rayna Cruz

Rayna Cruz in The Vampire Diaries.

The jump from Heretics to Rayna Cruz was very abrupt, and a plot that nobody liked very much. Rayna was not a likable character at all, and she was more annoying than anything else. Her relentless pursuit of her marked vampires scattered the group, which was a no-no.

Even when the writers tried to humanize her with a backstory about how her father was killed and the Shamans gave her several lives to track down vampires, it didn't do much for her. Her last life was given to Bonnie to survive the deadly pills from the Armory, but she too became a Huntress which was quite unnecessary.

Matt Being Sheriff

Matt Donovan talking to his father on The Vampire Diaries

For the longest time, Matt Donovan was a loyal friend to Elena and all of her supernatural companions, till he suddenly wasn't. It was odd to see Matt turn so quickly over seemingly nothing since he had remained an ally to the vampires after they had killed his own sister.

His sudden bravado was uninspiring, and it made no sense that a high school student would become Sheriff of the town. Nothing about Matt was intimidating, and his enmity with the people he used to be friends with seemed forced.

Katherine's Body Snatching

Katherine was undoubtedly the queen of survival, but her prolonged death, the tributes, and the last words seemed rather long-drawn-out and not needed when her plan had been to take over Elena's body before she could die.

Her tenure on the show was spent impersonating or insulting Elena most of the time, which was why it was tiresome and boring to see her do it again. What seemed like a grand farewell to an iconic character was spoiled by her choice to body snatch Elena.

The Three Year Jump

Caroline and Alaric in The Vampire Diaries

While time jumps are added to refresh a show and add some new elements to it, there were too many things happening before and after the jump, which made no sense. Damon decided to desiccate himself, while Stefan chose to run away with Valerie to stay out of reach of Rayna.

His budding romance with Caroline was cut short, and she was seen shacking up with Alaric and their kids, which was quite difficult to digest. Bonnie and Enzo were suddenly soulmates and keeping track of the before and after was very difficult since it was shot confusingly. This time jump was not as exciting as fans had expected and one of the most overdone storylines in teen dramas.

Cade, The Ruler Of Hell

Cade looks on in The Vampire Diaries

Cade was introduced as the all-powerful King of Hell, who had once been a kindly man, but the brutal world had turned him into a gruesome and cruel spirit. His arc with the Sirens was disappointing, as was the feeble fight he put up against Damon, Bonnie and Stefan.

He was supposed to be the worst of all the villains, but it was too easy to defeat him. He was brushed off to easily to make space for Katherine to re-enter the frame. It was extremely underwhelming that Katerina was somehow more powerful than the Creator of Hell.
