Caroline Forbes is one character who underwent a serious transformation in The Vampire Diaries. As a result, it made it sometimes difficult for the fans to form a clear opinion about Caroline, or sometimes the tides would turn for or against her based on the arcs her character went through. Not all of her developments sat well with the audience who were then quick to express their displeasure on Reddit.
In some cases, the fans have an opinion that drastically differs from the majority of the viewers, which proves that Caroline is a very complex and fully fleshed-out character.
Caroline And Tyler Should Have Stayed Together
Caroline had multiple romantic relationships on the show. She dated Matt, Tyler, Stefan, and even had a brief fling with Klaus. But a certain Reddit believes that Caroline and Tyler should have stayed together instead.
Despite the fact that Tyler left Caroline behind and was obsessed with getting his revenge on Klaus, had they stayed together, the show would be very different because Tyler wouldn't have most likely died. It would also correspond with the books where Caroline becomes a werewolf, not a vampire, and has children with Tyler.
Caroline Got Too Much Screentime
Even though the show centered on Elena, Damon, and Stefan, other characters also got a lot of space to breathe. Caroline was one of them, and considering her popularity, giving her more attention sat well with her fans. However, not all of them enjoyed seeing Caroline so often.

Caroline and Klaus never had a proper relationship, with their interlude in the woods being their most prominent romantic moment. Despite that, many fans still shipped them and imagined what would happen if they stayed together.
Not all of the audience appreciated the pairing, though. Princess5903 simply stated they didn't like Klaroline. There are multiple possible reasons for it, one of them being that Klaus didn't always treat Caroline fairly, and he endangered both her life and the lives of her friends. Another reason is that Klaus's and Caroline's relationship never got much development regardless of its potential.
Caroline Wouldn't Be So Popular If It Wasn't For Matt
As one of the few characters who remained fully human for the entire show, fans sometimes overlook Matt's importance. But Sc0rpi093 believes that Matt played a major part in Caroline becoming so popular with the fans since Matt "is the reason she starts her journey to becoming a better person, he's the reason we got to see that side, to begin with."
It wasn't until Caroline opened up to Matt that the audience learned more about her feelings and her inner insecurities, which made her seem more approachable.
Caroline And Stefan Had No Chemistry
Caroline was interested in Stefan when she first met him. When they got together much later, many fans loved the couple. The Greeneyedgal13 can't be included in that category though, as they pointed out that Caroline and Stefan had no romantic vibes "and their chemistry was just so friend/sibling."
Whatever the case, they ed each other at the end of Stefan's life, and even though Caroline missed Stefan, she still understood why he sacrificed his life and did what he felt he had to do.
Caroline Is A Mary Sue
The Reddit mocochocoblue believes that Caroline is Mary Sue. A Mary Sue is an overly perfect character, loved by everyone, who has no significant flaws. That doesn't take into consideration other, less shiny aspects of Caroline's character, though.
For example, Caroline competed with Elena since she felt like others would always prefer Elena over her. She was also lonely and distanced from both of her parents. Overall, despite Caroline's cheery demeanor, she hasn't had the easiest of lives and she was far from a perfect person who made no mistakes.
Caroline's Friends Were Horrible To Her
Caroline's tendency to compete with Elena and her self-absorbed nature in the first season left a lot to be desired. However, the hiimdead1898 thinks that "Caroline wasn't selfish, and Bonnie and Elena were horrible friends to her in the first season."
Not to mention, Bonnie seemed to blame Caroline for becoming a vampire. Bonnie and Elena failed to recognize that beneath Caroline's bravado lied the wish to have people who would be there for her, as her own family failed her in this area. It's true that Caroline didn't always express her emotions in the best way but, for example, her concern for Elena in the very first episode seems genuine. Elena didn't seem to appreciate it, though.
Caroline Should Not Have Forgiven Damon
It came as a surprise to some that Caroline forgave Damon for the way he treated her in the first season. Damon drank from Caroline and he used her in an attempt to destroy Elena's and Stefan's relationship, to spy on them - and then he tried to kill her.
Some fans didn't see it that way but Fantine_33 pointed out that "the show never really properly addressed just how wrong the Damon/Caroline situation was in season one." Caroline did at one point confront Damon about it, but it happened early on and from there on, the show didn't really take the time to address the matter. It went as far as to turn Caroline and Damon into friends despite their less than good shared past.
Caroline Was Good Both As A Human And A Vampire
The general consensus is that Caroline became a much better character once she turned into a vampire - more determined, confident, and selfless. That didn't stop the Reddit pandaemoniumn from saying that they liked Caroline both when she was a human and when she was a vampire.
It's true that Caroline as a human was very different from Caroline as a vampire, but at least the transformation showed how much Caroline had grown as a person over time.
Caroline And Enzo Would Make A Good Couple
When it comes to Caroline's potential romances, the fans usually ship her with Klaus above all her other love interests. However, one thinks that Caroline and Enzo would make a good couple. They believe there was genuine chemistry between them in the sixth season.
While it's true that Enzo used to be Caroline's type (and Enzo himself pointed it out), after her tumultuous relationships with Damon, Tyler, and Klaus, it would make sense for Caroline to look for someone more stable than Enzo.
