As soon as Bonnie realized that she was a witch, she accepted the responsibility with seriousness and was at times the only one who has her priorities in order. Bonnie was unfortunately sidelined as the best friend, when she seemed to be the only person who cared what was actually going on and who had the power to do anything about it.

Plot Against The Tomb Vampires

Out of all the main characters on the show, Bonnie often stood alone. Most of them were either in love with vampires or were one. Bonnie was the only one who considered the threat they truly posed.  This came into play specifically when the tomb was opened and the vampires desiccating there escaped.

Damon asked Bonnie to disable the vampire detecting device. Thinking two steps in advance, Bonnie pretended to remove the threat to the Salvatores, but never cast the spell. She was adamant about destroying the threat to Mystic Falls.

Though their relationship became significantly different down the line, Bonnie and Damon started with a contentious dynamic. They were different sides of the same coin. Both would do anything to accomplish their goals no matter what the cost.

Bonnie was never afraid of Damon. She saved him from the tomb vampires at the end of season one, but only for Elena’s sake. Bonnie promised that if Damon spilled one more drop of innocent blood, she would kill him. It was just the start of her journey as a witch, but already she knew what was right.

Faked Her Death To Kill Klaus

Klaus and Bonnie in The Vampire Diaries

Bonnie took her responsibility as a witch very seriously. After Klaus arrived in Mystic Falls, he made it clear that Elena had to die to further his agenda. Bonnie was the main obstacle for him. Klaus intended on provoking her magic so much that it would kill her. Anticipating this, Bonnie fought him and preyed on his expectations.

Bonnie went the extra mile and faked her death, but it was only because she was the only one that could beat Klaus in a fight. Bonnie was the only one strong enough to weaken him to the point of death.

Broke The Spirits’ Rules

Most of Bonnie’s witchcraft was dependent on the unseen spirits that govern magic. Her grandmother always warned her to heed these spirits and for a time, Bonnie did. Her power became so absolute in later seasons that the spirits warned her they would take away her power. After Bonnie transferred Klaus’s essence into the body of Tyler Lockwood, her magic was taken away.

But even that wasn’t enough to take Bonnie down. After her magic was taken away, Bonnie learned black magic called Expression. Despite the fates wanting to subdue her, Bonnie always found a way to persevere.

Resurrected Jeremy

Even in The Vampire Diaries, death is often definite. Especially for the human characters. Jeremy was killed by Silas, an evil immortal being intent on being reunited with his one true love. When Bonnie first learned of Jeremy’s death, she tried to bring him back but wasn’t able to.

It was only when she lifted the veil to The Other Side did the possibility of getting Jeremy to stay present itself. Bonnie used so much of her power that she was able to bring Jeremy back, even though that meant sacrificing herself.

Chose To Be The Anchor

Even when Bonnie died, she still stuck around for Jeremy. Bonnie wasn’t ready to move onto The Other Side, a purgatory for supernatural beings. Bonnie wanted so badly to be with her friends again, that she devised a plan.

The only way for her to return to form would be to become the anchor to The Other Side. This would mean she would lose any magical ability and would have to experience every supernatural death as they ed through her to the other side. This was at great personal cost to her, but she did it just the same.

Sacrificed Herself As The Other Side Collapsed

Once again, Bonnie put every person before herself. Even Damon, who she typically despised. The Other Side was collapsing and as the anchor, she was going along with it. Beings like Enzo and Damon were trapped on The Other Side, but were able to through Bonnie to the land of the living for a short time.

Though she had no reason to sacrifice herself once again for everyone, she did so anyway. Without Bonnie, no one would have seen Alaric or Damon again.

After bonding with Damon for what felt like an eternity, Bonnie found that they had become friends. They had lost hope of ever escaping until Kai appeared and told them about the Ascendant. Neither of them wanted for Kai to escape, and needed to find a way out.

Always the martyr, Bonnie pushed Damon out of the prison world by keeping her and Kai trapped in it. Even though she had more people at home wishing for her safe return, she saved Damon instead.

Kept Going When Her Life In The Prison World Seemed Hopeless

Bonnie had more strength than any of the other characters. When faced with an eternity alone, Bonnie reached her lowest lows. She had no Damon to keep her company, and Kai had escaped on his own accord to the human world. It was an incredibly hard time for her.

Even though it seemed utterly hopeless, she fought for herself and eventually saw her life improve again.

Outsmarted Kai
