Fans met a powerful variant of the Wasp in the latest episode of the animated What If..? series, fighting zombies with every trick in the book. That Wasp could also grow into giant-size, as some of her most powerful versions in Marvel Comics can also do. Some of those takes on the character could potentially appear in the MCU in the future.

Some comic book variants of the Wasp originate from within the continuity of Earth-616, the main Marvel Universe, but others come from various alternate timelines throughout the multiverse. A number of them could potentially appear in future episodes of What If..? or even perhaps the main timeline of the MCU itself.

Ultimate Comics

The Ultimate Comics version of Janet Van Dyne was a mutant, but more or less the same in power and ability as her Earth-616 counterpart. She could grow or shrink in size, fly, and could fire bio-electrical bursts of energy called Wasp's Stings.

She could only become a giant by ingesting a serum developed by Hank Pym, which she actually used to kill the villain Red Wasp by stepping on her. The Wasp was a powerful member of the Ultimates who proved instrumental in the success of the team and the scientific advancements of Hank Pym.

Red Queen

The Red Queen is Hope Pym, the daughter of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, from the MCU alternate reality of Earth-982. Hope uses a specialized suit of armor as well as synthetic wings which she has grafted onto her body to achieve her villainous ambitions.

She can fly and shrink in size as most versions of the Wasp, but she can't get any bigger. She makes up for that deficiency with energy bursts she can fire from the gloves of her suit, and razor-sharp claws built into her fingers. She often uses these against her twin brother in this universe, Big Man.

Red Wasp

Another red-themed version of the Wasp comes from the Ultimate Comics universe of Earth-1610. Petra Laskov had the ability to change her size at will as Janet Van Dyne did. Unlike Janet, who died tragically in the Ultimatum crossover, Petra could control large swarms of insects.

She also had a powerful version of the "Wasp Sting'" Janet used that could paralyze or in some cases kill enemies. Petra had far fewer scruples and regard for right and wrong than Janet, making her especially dangerous to friend and foe alike.

Cyborg Wasp

The Cyborg or Deathlok Wasp comes from one of the darkest future timelines in Marvel Comics. All superheroes in this world were augmented with the cyborg technology of Deathlok, combining her shrinking ability and flight with the enhanced computer intellect of Deathlok.

She also possesses his superhuman strength, stamina, and agility, all of which compound the smaller she gets. Her left arm and much of her face have been replaced by extremely advanced cybernetic implants, which also provide her with the ability to fire energy blasts.

Hank Pym

Hank Pym becomes the Wasp in Marvel Comics.

For a time, Hank Pym served as the Wasp while part of the Mighty Avengers in Earth-616. With his advanced intellect, martial arts ability, and use of the Pym Particles, this version of the Wasp had a lot of power. Pym could use his patented particles to shrink to molecular size and phase through the very fabric of reality.

The infinitesimal Hank Pym version of the Wasp used his powers and intelligence to help the Avengers rescue Janet from the Microverse, where she had been trapped for some time. He also helped bring Captain America back after he had been trapped in time as well.

Nadia Van Dyne

Nadia Van Dyne is as powerful and intelligent as her father, Hank Pym. She has some advantages over him, with Pym particles being present in her bloodstream. This allows her to shrink to subatomic size at will without having to ingest any formula.

She can shrink down so small she can phase through different planes of existence, including being able to access the Microverse. A product of the same Red Room program that produced Black Widow, Nadia is one of the most skilled and lethal martial artists in the Marvel Universe.

Zombie Wasp

Fans of What If..? know that the zombie version of the Wasp can be very powerful and deadly. The comic book version of the Zombie Wasp was even more so. This version of the Wasp retained all of her normal powers of shrinking and flight and was also virtually indestructible thanks to being infected by the zombie virus that affected so many Marvel superheroes.

Unlike many zombies in media, she retained her vivacious personality and superior intellect. She was so powerful that she was able to overpower Magneto, one of the best and most powerful X-Men villains, and kill him with relative ease.

Giant-Girl

Giant-GIrl rampages through a city in Marvel Comics.

Giant-Girl comes from Earth-20051, where Janet Van Dyne became the first superhero to increase her size via Hank Pym's technology. She was also cruelly experimented on by an alternate version of MODOK and gained an entire array of powerful mental abilities. Giant-Girl gained advanced intelligence from the A.I.M. experiments, as well as a number of psionic powers including telekinesis and mind control, making her one of the most powerful versions of the Wasp in the comics.

Captain Marvel

Janet Van Dyne becomes Captain Marvel in Age Of Ultron comic.

In the alternate reality of the Age Of Ultron comic book event, Janet Van Dyne was Captain Marvel. While the true extent of her powers isn't known, it was clear she possessed both her abilities as the Wasp and those of the cosmically strong Captain Marvel.

If she possessed the cosmic awareness, control over matter and energy, and lightspeed potential of Carol Danvers, then Janet would have been incredibly powerful. She didn't have a chance to truly realize her power as she was killed in the storyline when Ultron destroyed New York City along with many Avengers.

Carina Tivan

Carina is tackled by Vision as she blasts Iron Man in a Marvel comic book.

One of the most powerful versions of the Wasp in Marvel Comics was an imposter, of sorts. Carina Tivan was a comically powered being who could perceive alternate futures and realities, as well as draw energy from them. She also for a time shared the power of Korvac, an extremely powerful Avengers villain who acquired the Power Cosmic from Galactus. Carina was never officially the Wasp, but because her power left her physical form somewhat amorphous, Hank Pym was able to use his intellect to coalesce her into the familiar guise of his wife.
