Michael B. Jordan shares his opinion about a potential reboot of The Wire ended with season 5 in 2008 and remains one of the most beloved HBO shows of all time. Jordan starred in 13 episodes of the show as Wallace, a young drug dealer who worked for D'Angelo Barksdale (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.).
During a recent video for GQ in which he breaks down his most iconic characters, Jordan looks back fondly on his time in The Wire. After revealing that his role as Wallace opened a lot of doors for him as an actor, Jordan addresses the possibility of the HBO series getting a reboot. The actor takes a firm stance on the matter, saying that he doesn't think the series should return in any form. Check out his comment below:
I would love to see that just remain, you know, without a reboot, without a recast, any of that stuff. Just leave it. Leave it where it is. I mean, maybe I’m biased because I’m a part of it, you know what I’m saying. I don’t want to see The Wire rebooted at all.
What Jordan's Comment Means For The Wire
Jordan Isn't The Only Cast Member To Not Want A Reboot
The Wire remains not just an HBO hit, but it still stands as one of the greatest crime drama shows of all time. On The Wire's cast to speak out against the possibility of a reboot.

The Wire: Every Season, Ranked
The Wire is home to some of the smartest television ever written with all five seasons contributing to an incredible story. But which is the best?
Speaking to DailyMail.com last May, Jamie Hector, who played Marlo Stanfield, revealed that he is against the idea of a reboot of The Wire. "When something is left on a great note and... you try to recreate it again — the mindset, the timing, the era, the people — everything has changed," Hector said. The TV landscape of today, after all, is very different from the one that existed in the early 2000s. Thankfully, there has been no announcement that a reboot of The Wire is in development, meaning Jordan and Hector may get their wishes.
Our Take On A Potential Reboot Of The Wire
A Spiritual Successor Has Already Come Out
We Own This City was released in 2022, chronicling the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force. Though the series wasn't a reboot of The Wire and didn't share any DNA with it, it explored similar subject matter with a similar tone. We Own This City could serve as a blueprint for how to recreate aspects of The Wire without actually rebooting the show and potentially ruining the original's legacy.
We Own This City has a 93% critics' score and 77% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hollywood is very much in an age of reboots and sequels, meaning The Wire returning in some form is certainly not out of the question. With the right showrunners and creative team, such a project could even be successful. Attempting to recapture the magic of The Wire is a tall order, however, and Jordan is probably right that it should be left alone.
