The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt not only racked up Game of the Year awards when it was released in 2015, but it remains one of the most-played and most-talked-about games even today. Filled with not only a captivating main story but plenty of dangerous or funny side quests, gamers keep playing the game and discovering new details in it even though it came out five years ago.

A big part of The Witcher 3's enduring popularity and playability is the many characters it features. Geralt of Rivia might be the game's protagonist, but throughout his journey, he encounters many friends and villains, from humans to dwarves and vampires— and other witchers, of course.

Vesemir: Gryffindor

By the time the players meet Vesemir in The Witcher 3, he's already been through a lot, lived several centuries, and may seem overly strict. However, from what later becomes revealed about his past, it's clear that Vesemir isn't as serious as he would like others to believe. Just like Geralt and Ciri, Vesemir is a highly brave person and isn't afraid to face enemies stronger than him. He even goes as far as to sacrifice his life to protect Ciri from the Wild Hunt.

Gaunter O'Dimm: Slytherin

Gaunter O'Dimm

It might not be obvious at first, but Gaunter O'Dimm is one of the main characters in The Witcher 3. He's the one who puts things in motion, appears at the right place at the right time, and has an effect on many people Geralt encounters along the way. Gaunter O'Dimm first appears at the beginning of the game, in the White Orchard Inn, only to return later as the main villain of the DLC Hearts of Stone.

Like a proper villain, he would belong to Slytherin. Funnily enough, O'Dimm isn't evil toward everyone. In fact, he treats Geralt with genuine respect and even a hint of kindness. Only those who cross him will meet misfortune.

Shani: Ravenclaw

The Witcher 3 Shani in the DLC Hearts of Stone

Shani might be one of the youngest Geralt's friends slash love interests— but she's also one of the wisest. Shani has studied medicine and became a successful medic in times when women were mostly expected to marry and take care of their children.

Shani even confides in Geralt, saying that her own mother would have preferred Shani to find a husband at the Academy where she studied. Shani's ambitious nature and her extensive knowledge would earn her place in Ravenclaw. Shani is also a good friend, willing to help those who need it.

Dandelion: Hufflepuff

The Witcher Dandelion

Geralt's good friend Dandelion - best friend, Dandelion would no doubt say - is intelligent but also slightly naive. Dandelion is a positive person by nature and he usually sees the light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how dim the circumstances are.

That's why he's so surprised by Geralt's grim mood when the two men reunite in The Witcher 3. Geralt is worried about Ciri but Dandelion is convinced the young woman can take of herself. And there's also Dandelion's loyalty to his friends, another typical trait of Hufflepuffs.

Regis: Ravenclaw

Regis is a higher vampire and he's been around for centuries. He and Geralt go way back and are close friends. Regis had a lot of time to study and as a result, he's not only smart but also very educated. He's the person to turn to when someone needs a hand.

He can provide not only advice but also his friends in the fight, as he's done before. When he's maintaining his civil persona, Regis works as an apothecary, which once again requires from his using his knowledge in a way Ravenclaws would be proud of.

Zoltan Chivay: Hufflepuff

Zoltan Chivay

Just like Dandelion, Zoltan Chivay is Geralt's good friend. And similarly to the famous bard, Zoltan also doesn't always make the best call, the wisest decision. He's brave, but not reckless, smart, but not overly. In the end, his most defining trait is his loyalty to his friends.

Zoltan clearly demonstrates this when he goes to Kaer Morhen to fight for Ciri and face the frightening Wild Hunt. So even though he sometimes risks too much— such as when he owes money to the wrong sort of people— Zoltan is the type of person others can rely on.

Triss Merigold: Gryffindor

Witcher 3 Triss

Based on the previous games, Triss could also belong to Slytherin. But her actions in the third game put her into Gryffindor, clear and simple. Throughout The Witcher 3, Triss risks her health (and life) multiple times. She's the one who's helping the persecuted mages escape Novigrad.

And she's been doing this for a while, even before Geralt found her in the city and they reunited. Triss also treats others with kindness and patience, which is typical for Gryffindors— but not so much for Yennefer.

Yennefer Of Vengerberg: Slytherin

Yennefer

Yennefer has a soft heart, especially when it comes to her love for Geralt and for Ciri whom she sees as her daughter. But Yennefer's behavior and other character traits put her in Slytherin.

Yennefer can be quite standoffish, sometimes even downright rude to others, Geralt included. She's snarky and witty, and not always the most pleasant person to be around. She's also willing to do many unsavory things to achieve her goals— such as necromancy— and putting morality aside in the name of getting what she wants is typical for Slytherins.

Ciri: Gryffindor

Ciri in The Witcher 3

Ciri is a smart person but she's still very young in the games and she sometimes lets her emotion take the best of her. She can quite easily lose her temper, especially when she feels like other people aren't taking her seriously.

Ciri is very brave and willing to fight for her friends, no matter the danger, and that puts her in Gryffindor. She proved her bravery time and time again, such as when she singlehandedly took on the three Crones who had previously wanted to eat her.

Geralt Of Rivia: Gryffindor

The Witcher 3 Geralt

One reason why Ciri and Geralt get along so well is that they share many character traits. Geralt has been around much longer than Ciri but their kindness and bravery (as well as a sense of humor) are what connect them. Geralt seemingly values his neutrality but he has a strong view of what's right and wrong.

He faces enemies on a regular basis even though he knows the dangers connected with it. And there's very little he wouldn't do for his friends so when they ask him for help, they can count on him.
