Season 4 of Netflix’s The Witcher is facing some big challenges, mostly its Geralt of Rivia recast, but the show’s highest-rated episode so far is actually good news for the new Geralt. Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel series The Witcher got its first English language adaptation in 2019 thanks to Netflix, becoming one of the streamer’s biggest releases. Although The Witcher faced some backlash during its second season due to the many changes it made to the source material, season 3 was received better, and the show is now preparing for its fourth season.
The Witcher season 3 ended with Geralt (Henry Cavill), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri (Freya Allan) separated again after the chaos of the Thanedd Coup. Yennefer created the Lodge of Sorceresses, Geralt recovered in Brokilon and left with Jaskier and Milva to find Ciri, while the Cintran Princess ended up in a desert and was later rescued and recruited by the Rats. The Witcher season 4 has a lot to cover, and it’s also facing the recast of Geralt, but the show’s highest-rated episode should take off some of that pressure, as it's good news for the show’s recast.
The Witcher's Top-Rated Episode Proves Geralt Isn't The Only One Who Makes The Show Great
The Witcher Has Other Great Main Characters
All seasons of The Witcher so far have been packed with action and have had some big reveals and twists. The top-rated episode of Netflix’s The Witcher so far is the season 1 finale, “Much More”, in which the timelines of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri finally converge. Before Geralt and Ciri finally find each other in the forest, the episode covers the Battle of Sodden Hill, which is all about the mages and sorceresses teaming up to prevent the Nilfgaardian forces from invading the remaining Northern Kingdoms.
Yennefer is at the front and center of this episode, and its high rating proves that The Witcher and its success don’t depend just on Geralt.
Yennefer was key during this battle, and she summoned fire magic and channeled a massive stream of fire, with which she got rid of the approaching army – however, this also made her disappear. Yennefer is at the front and center of this episode, and its high rating proves that The Witcher and its success don’t depend just on Geralt. While Geralt is obviously a key character in the series, the show also needs Yennefer and Ciri, and the great reception of “Much More” shows that The Witcher can still succeed when putting either of them in the spotlight, while Geralt has smaller or quieter storylines.

The Witcher: Why Fire Magic Is Forbidden
Netflix's The Witcher has seen different examples of fire magic, a forbidden practice – but why is it forbidden and what are its consequences?
The Witcher's Best Episode Is Good News For Season 4's Geralt Recast
The Witcher Season 4 Will Be Liam Hemsworth’s Debut As Geralt Of Rivia
With the announcement of Henry Cavill’s departure after The Witcher season 3 came the news of Liam Hemsworth taking over as Geralt of Rivia. Fans of the show didn’t take the news lightly, and there has been a lot of criticism but also anticipation around Hemsworth’s debut as Geralt. Surely, expectations are high thanks to Cavill’s amazing performance, but the above-mentioned highest-rated episode is good news for the show’s new Geralt and should take some pressure off.
If it properly shares the spotlight with Yennefer and Ciri, it can take some of the focus off of Hemsworth’s Geralt and make the transition a lot smoother.
The Witcher already proved with its season 1 finale (and with other episodes centered more on Yennefer and Ciri than Geralt) that it doesn’t need to prominently feature Geralt to succeed. The audience will go through a process of adaptation when The Witcher season 4 comes out, as they are used to Cavill’s performance as Geralt, but if it properly shares the spotlight with Yennefer and Ciri, it can take some of the focus off of Hemsworth’s Geralt and make the transition a lot smoother for everyone.

Based on the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and the video games, The Witcher follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. "Ciri" Cirilla is the Princess of Cintra, who has magical abilities and whose fate has been linked to Geralt's. Yennefer of Vengerberg, a sorceress who trains to become a mage before deserting her duties and going solo, is also a main character in the Netflix series. The show's storylines are intertwined but told throughout different timelines, all of which eventually catch up to Ciri's, whose timeline of events is the most recent. Set on the Continent where men, monsters, and elves exist together, the characters all have separate journeys, though their destinies bring them into each others' orbits.
