Pulling from both the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, as well as the video game series, Netflix's The Witcher has created something fresh that appeals to long-time fans, as well as those who are entirely new to Geralt and the world of Witchers.

With season 3 currently filming, speculation is flying about what stories and characters will be explored next. There are a few stories left from the first two books that have not yet been adapted, existing characters fans would love to know more about, and a few new characters recently announced who could have huge impacts on Geralt and Ciri moving forward.

The Voice Of Reason

Adjoa Andoh in The Witcher

The Voice of Reason is the framing story for the first book, The Last Wish, and the only story from that book not yet brought to the screen. It revolves around Geralt as he is tended to by Mother Nenneke at the Temple of Melitele. Nenneke defends Geralt from locals who are not happy with his presence while pushing him to enter a trance to see what the future holds for him.

Nenneke has already been introduced in the show and is shown as being familiar with and fond of Geralt. This story explores their past a bit more deeply and goes a long way toward explaining why Geralt would trust her to watch over and protect Ciri.

A Shard Of Ice

Geralt and Istredd walking together in The Witcher.

Though The Witcher is a fantasy-historical series set in the Medieval era, that doesn't mean relationships are any less complicated. A Shard of Ice finds Geralt and Yennifer staying at an inn in a small town, where Yennefer is also engaging in a relationship with none other than Istredd. It isn't long before Geralt and Istredd are at each other's throats, each trying to prove he is the man for Yennefer.

While it was already revealed in season 2 that both men had been lovers of Yennefer, it lacked the emotional impact of the original story. Not only were the two willing to fight for the death for her, which shows just what kind of power she holds over her lovers, but it also dives a bit deeper into the idea that as a Witcher, Geralt shouldn't be capable of love.

Eternal Flame

Jaskier in The Witcher

Jaskier often has the best quotes, and things are no different when Geralt discovers him standing on the street as a woman on a balcony pelts things at him. The friends go off in search of a drink, meeting up with halfling merchant Dainty Biberveldt, who is the doppler Dudu posing as Biberveldt, and a series of shenanigans ensues.

Showing this story would provide the show with the chance to fix some of the wrongs it has done to Geralt and Jaskier's friendship. It also sets up dopplers, and Dudu in particular, as he shows up later in the books and plays a crucial role.

A Little Sacrifice

Jaskier and Geralt in a forest in The Witcher.

The final untold story from the original two books finds Geralt and Jaskier yet again hungry and broke, as Geralt tries to communicate between a siren and the prince of Bremervoord who is in love with her. When the two cannot see eye-to-eye, the prince refuses to pay Geralt, and Jaskier is forced to perform at a wedding to feed them.

Another chance to show the friendship between Jaskier and Geralt, A Little Sacrifice also introduces Essi Daven, known as Little Eye - a bard friend of Jaskier. Essi and Geralt have an instant connection, which goes nowhere because of his love for Yennefer. Telling this story would help cement Geralt's loyalty to his friends as well as his relationship with Yen, even after the fight.

Vilgefortz

Vilgefortz looking to his right in The Witcher.

Like many of the characters on the show, Vilgefortz has a rich personal history that has yet to be explored. Abandoned as an infant, he was raised by druids, only discovering his magical abilities by accident. When a mage comes across them on accident and offers to teach the young man, Vilgefortz turns him down and eventually becomes a mercenary and a spy.

Largely considered to be one of the show's best side characters with main character energy, Vilgefortz has been seen as one of the good guys so far, albeit a manipulative one. Were the show to dive deeper into his violent past before he ed the Brotherhood, it would add depth to the already charismatic character.

The Other Witchers

Coen, Vesemir, and Lambert in The Witcher

In season 2, fans were introduced to Geralt's fellow Witchers, including Vesemir, who is the closest thing Geralt has to a father. The show also brought in Lambert, and made a big deviation from the source material with Eskel and Coën's stories, as Eskel dies and Coën survives in a reversal of roles from the books.

Vesemir played an important role in the books, and his character had far more depth than he has so far been given on the show. Giving more of his background and history could work to justify his behavior in season two. The show could also help the viewers understand the sacrifices Witchers have to make by showing Lambert and Coën's stories.

Philippa

Philippa Eilhart the sorceress from The Witcher Season 2

Philippa Eilhart is a bit of an enigma. She is a schemer, and intent on making sure sorceresses gain the same rights and powers that the Brotherhood of Sorcerers has. That drive motivates her to begin the Lodge of Sorceresses, which plays a big role in Ciri's future, as well as Yennefer's.

Not much is known in the show about Philippa as of yet, but she plays a large role in the novels, so it stands to reason that she will be given some more background in the season. Since there is not a lot known about her history canonically, Netflix could go in nearly any direction to provide her with motivation for whatever the future holds for her.

Dijkstra

Dijkstra looking annoyed in The Witcher

Yet another character with an enigmatic background, Dijkstra's character in the books is in charge of Redanian intelligence. Despite his size and his penchant for ridiculous attire, he is a highly successful spy and a fearsome opponent.  Aside from recruiting Jaskier as his spy, Dijkstra is engaged in a romantic relationship with Philippa, though the two are constantly using one another.

Dijkstra creates a lot of chaos with his machinations throughout the novels, so he will likely be around to cause trouble on the show for quite some time. It is never quite clear in the books what Dijkstra's ultimate goals are, so it may benefit the show to clarify what drives him, or what he is after.

Mistle

Mistle and Ciri gazing into each other's eyes in The Witcher III.

Set to the show in season 3, Mistle could very well be Ciri's love interest. After escaping the coup on Aretuza, Ciri gets captured by slavers and imprisoned alongside another youth, who asks for her help. The two are rescued by his friends, a street gang called the Rats, who Ciri then s up with, meeting future girlfriend Mistle.

Though fans may think some of the worst things have already happened to the characters of the show, Ciri's relationship with Mistle proves to be devastating. Should the show allow Ciri to explore her sexuality with Mistle, they may also be setting her up for the catastrophic events that follow.

Milva

The Witcher - Milva

Another newcomer, Milva plays a big role in Geralt's story as the books progress, and she will likely do the same in the show. Milva is unmatched with a bow and arrow, and she risks her life repeatedly to help lead broken units of the Scoia'tael to Brokilon forest before meeting Geralt and leaving to help him on his quest to save Ciri.

Much of the focus on the elves during season 2 of the show was not on the Scoia'tael themselves, which leaves much of their origins to be explored. Doing so through Milva, who fights with everything she has for them until she meets Geralt, could be a way to elicit sympathy for the elven army, and what they stand for.
