The first Thor movie introduced the God of Thunder to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While not all fans look back on this movie fondly, it was a true Shakespearian tragedy, with the chosen son Thor forced to find his humility. At the same time, the ed-over brother Loki sought vengeance for not gaining what he believed he deserved.
The movie also has the distinction of introducing a future Avenger, in a small role that showed how dangerous he really was, as well as the entire roster of characters from Asgard, from the All-Father to Thor's most loyal allies. Here are the characters with the least and most screentime when it comes to characters who play an active role in the plot.
Least - Clint Barton/Hawkeye (0:30)
When The Avengers came out, fans had a chance to meet every team member but one, and that character was Hawkeye. However, Hawkeye did appear in one Marvel movie, although he only got 30 seconds of screen time.
Thor was going to try to retrieve Mjolnir and S.H.I.E.L.D. called in someone to prepare for anything. This was Clint Barton, who claimed to a high perch with his bow and arrow. He wasn't needed, but this was Hawkeye's first appearance in the MCU.
Least - Jasper Sitwell (1:00)
Jasper Sitwell was part of Nick Fury's group of agents in S.H.I.E.L.D. and, at this point, was still a good guy. However, Jasper had a dark turn when it turned out that he was a Hydra agent infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Here, he was on site where Mjolnir landed. He answered to Nick Fury and Agent Coulson and was there when Thor showed up to try to lift Mjolnir. He was in the movie for just one minute.
Least - Frigga (2:00)
Thor's mother, Frigga, played a huge role in Thor: Dark World, but she was mostly a side character in the first Thor movie. This is because the first movie mostly saw Thor banished from Asgard to Earth without Mjolnir.
In her two minutes of screentime, Frigga was there to give hope for Loki, give encouragement to Thor, and give some of her thoughts to Odin after Thor's banishment. In the first movie, Frigga was the only person who saw anything good about Loki and had her heart broke.
Least - Laufey (3:30)
The villain of Thor was Loki, who brought the giant god-killing android The Destroyer to Earth to attack and try to kill his brother, as Loki had his designs on the throne of Asgard. Loki was a tragic villain, someone who felt he was unfairly treated and ed over by his father, Odin.
However, Loki's birth father was also in the first Thor movie, as Laufey appeared for three minutes, 30 seconds. Laufey was King of the Frost Giants. Thor battled Laufey and the Frost Giants in the first movie, and then Loki showed up to offer his father the life of Odin before betraying him and killing his father.
Least - Heimdall (4:15)
Heimdall was the guardians of Asgard, standing vigil at the Bifrost gate. He also has the powers as a God to see anything and everything, past, present, and future. He played a big role in Thor: Ragnarok, and he was also important in the first Thor movie.
Heimdall allowed Thor to know that Jane Foster was still thinking about the God of Thunder when he returned to Asgard. His total screentime was only four minutes, 15 seconds.
Most - Odin (11:15)
Odin was the man who sent his son Thor to Earth and took away his weapon in Mjolnir. He was trying to teach his son a lesson, but what he did was almost kill Thor and help Loki rise to power as a villain that threatened the entire universe.
Odin, known as one of the worst dads in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, got a lot of that reputation here in this movie with both the way he treated Thor and Loki. While he banished Thor from Asgard, Odin was still in the movie for over 11 minutes.
Most - Dr. Erik Selvig (13:45)
Dr. Erik Selvig was a man Jane Foster brought in to help them when Thor ended up on Earth in Oklahoma. Selvig was an expert in astrophysics and worked with both Jane and Darcey to help Thor when it came time for him to prove his worth.
Erik Selvig ended up the first Thor movie working for S.H.I.E.L.D., but he ended up possessed by Loki. Lucky for Erik, he regained his sanity when Thor: The Dark World rolled around, but he still played a big role in Thor with 13 minutes 45 seconds of screentime.
Most - Jane Foster (21:00)
Jane Foster was the love interest for the first two Thor movies, and while she moved to a serious romance with Thor in the second movie, it was the first movie where she began to develop feelings for the God of Thunder.
While there was a huge role to play for Sig and the Warriors Three, none of those Asgardian warriors played as large a role as the human Jane in the first movie, with Foster on screen for 21 minutes. Jane is rumored to take on the role of Lady Thor in Thor: Love & Thunder.
Most - Loki (21:15)
Loki was the villain in the first Thor movie, and he was in the movie for 15 seconds longer than Jane Foster. What likely kept Loki from getting more screentime was the fact he took control of the Destroyer, and he was behind the scenes during these attacks.
However, Tom Hiddleston stole the show as Loki every time he appeared and ended up as Marvel's most memorable villain for the first two phases. Eventually, he found his redemption in Thor: Ragnarok.
Most - Thor (43:15)
The character with the most screentime in Thor was, not surprisingly, Thor. The movie saw Thor beginning his rise to power in Asgard, but his arrogance and insolence caused Odin to strip Thor of his power, take away Mjolnir, and banish him to Earth until he can find what he lacked to become a true heir to the All-Father.
On Earth, Thor found that and ended up as the most powerful Avenger. In Thor, the God of Thunder had over 43 minutes of screentime in a 115-minute movie.
