Since his debut in the MCU, Thor has continued to find new ways to harness his abilities as the God of Thunder to vanquish his enemies... but the son of Odin has yet to unleash his greatest power.
As every comic fans and moviegoer knows by now, Chris Hemsworth's bulging biceps), and having appearing in seven MCU films, Thor Odinson has yet to reach his fullest potential.
Thor’s most powerful ability comes from Thor’s first and most memorable movie fight with the automaton in New Mexico during the events of the first Thor film.
While Thor apparently never embraced the power, the Odinforce has made its way across the MCU numerous times without many fans realizing it. When Thor: The Dark World, the All-Father himself Odin uses the Odinforce to destroy the invading Dark Elves who had made it into the Throne room of Asgard. Later in the film, when Thor’s mother Queen Frigga dies, Odin again uses the powerful magic, as many fans see his queen’s body being transformed into energy as becoming one with the Odinforce. Similarly, when Odin himself es on in Thor: Ragnarok he too becomes part of the Odinforce, explaining the mighty power wielded by the King of Asgard.
While the Odinforce has made its way around the MCU, it is traditionally reserved for whoever is King of Asgard in the pages of Marvel Comics. Although Thor was in line to become ruler, he never actually acknowledged the ing of the Odinforce torch--either when he became king, or in the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame when abdicating the throne to Valkyrie (a decision that effectively cancels out his chances of having access to the ancient power). However, it could be possible that Thor goes on to acquire the spear Gungnir in a future sequel, or perhaps eventually rise to the throne, and become King Thor like in the comics.
For now, Thor was last seen bickering with Peter Quill before heading on a journey through the cosmos with The Guardians of The Galaxy. With the fourth solo Thor film, Thor: Love and Thunder, currently being developed by Marvel Studios it still remains to be seen if Thor will ever wield the power of the Odinforce himself.
