Warning: Contains spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder.
Did Galactus appear in Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, or any mention of him is beginning to seem strange. While Galactus appeared in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007, the film was a 20th Century Fox production and is not part of MCU canon.
In Thor: Love and Thunder, Gorr seems to be using the Necrosword to kill the gods of the MCU one god at a time. However, it becomes apparent that his true plan has become to lure Thor out so that he can take Stormbreaker and use the Bifrost to open the way to Eternity. Eternity is revealed to be a strange cosmic being that will grant the wish of the first living creature that is able to reach it.
When Thor, Jane, and Valkyrie find Gorr’s hideout in the Shadow Realm in Thor: Love and Thunder, sketches there about how to reach Eternity include an image that looks startlingly like common representations of Galactus. The stylized head with sharp appendages is seen again in silhouette at the gateway to Eternity and is clearly a representation of the being Eternity itself that is seen inside and grants Gorr’s wish. While Eternity looks a lot like the Devourer of Worlds, Galactus is not in Thor: Love and Thunder and Eternity is a distinct being.
Why Does Thor: Love and Thunder’s Eternity Look Like Galactus?
While Eternity in Thor: Love and Thunder looks a lot like Galactus, the two characters are different and it is not Galactus. However, there are good reasons why the two characters look similar. In the comics, two beings, Eternity and Infinity are cosmic entities that make up the personifications of time and space respectively and answer only to the Living Tribunal. When Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) saved the life of Galactus he was put on trial and was saved when Eternity appeared to assure the trial that Galactus was an essential part of the universe as an ancient cosmic being in his own right which persevered the balance between Eternity and Death.
Although Galactus is not in Thor: Love and Thunder, Eternity’s appearance in the movie and the entity’s connection to Galactus might serve as Fantastic Four movie set to the MCU in the coming years. This movie be an opportunity for the team to be redeemed after the previous portrayals did poorly, and Thor: Love and Thunder’s Eternity tease lays further groundwork for that.
